If your a  1 to 2% owner The Stable is probably the simplest way to enjoy the thrill of ownership without expecting a profit.. Your invoices will be inflated with Amac's family's living and travelling expenses, but your additional dollar outlay should be fairly minimal. Whereas if you want to be a serious owner of 10 % and up  and your goal is profitably stay away from the Stable and try find an honest trainer. Most well known Ohio trainers I've dealt with are. Your odds of  breaking even are still very small but at least your expenses won't be padded.

Totally agree as the 1% owners only want to be able to tell their friends they own "part" of a racehorse without mentioning the actual %. The problem with the fractional ownership is that every owner should be made to be fingerprinted and licensed regardless of % owned. What benefit do I get with my license compared to 1% owners....none.
Last, in my experience almost all Ohio trainers are hard working people who love the business and are trying to squeeze out a living. Problem is that it seems that the not so honest gather at Northfield but the judges are more worried about which donut to eat rather than do their job. Like the old days the Racing Commission needs to rotate the judges but that makes too much sense.

I wish the dirtbags and cheats only gathered at Northfield. They are a problem at every track in every state

As far as living expenses. I know several trainers that live and base in the east coast. While racing in Kentucky for the new inflated purses most are renting a condo or house to stay at when in Kentucky. Much cheaper than a hotel   And they bill it out to the owners. If you want your horse or part of a horse training in Ohio do not hire an Ontario based trainer. I don’t care for him inflating the price of purchase but expenses away from home is on the owners.

  • Sweet: Mike sleeps in no stall, but if there was a sick horse awaiting a vet, or a stall needed mucking, or weeds needed pulling, or large farm equiptment needed fixing, or renting to actual horseman, or run all operations and then some, it's the job.  Dreamland is a beautiful place!  ;D
