Why would anyone do that unless you want to lose millions of dollars.

East Moline ,Illinois. Back in the day, their handle was about the same as Cumberland.

How many years did this track operate if there was minimal handle and what was the purse structure?

Ask Dave Magee and Tony Morgan they both had stables there.

They had $900 - $3000 purses. Magee and Morgan started their careers there.

When QCD/EMD raced on Sunday afternoons they were the only game in IL.
Sundays they had some good IL Bred Stakes races.
That would bring Busse, Banks, Graham, Harmer, and many good Chicago horses and drivers.
It was a great place to race.
Family atmosphere!

Dave Magee was a bust there. Tony Mo was the leading driver there. Tom Simmons was the man.

That place was a _hithole. Anyone that would allow John Searle to drive there had rocks in their head.

John was more then OK when on a live catch drive.
It was on the horses that he trained that earned him the moniker
"Hub Rail Johnny"!
Just call me.

As a former QCD'er who now lives in the QC again, this stuff just is hilarious.  ngc3 ngc3 Every so often this topic has to come up because the place sits there, dilapidated to all get out. It WAS fun to race and do all what we did, but peeps, the "Moline" plant isn't viable and will never be. The ONLY shot it would have is if someone won the lottery and decided to make it a training center. I will say this though, a LOT of very prominent people came through that place at one time or another. I drive past there often, telling people its been close for 31 years now. Great memories. That's it.
