This is easy...
1. Campbell
2. Herve
3. O'Donnell
4. LaChance

5 you can have your pick, Miller, Sears, Case, Tetrick, Luc, ......there are probably 20 that could fit in here.  But I'd go with Sears.

This table provides some perspective (although it heavily weights those races overseen by the Hambletonian Society (and mostly more recent ones..i.e. last 25 years).  Not sure you can narrow the list to 5, so I would go with a "Lucky 7" of:

John Campbell
Ron Pierce
Brian Sears
Herve Filion
Mike LaChance
Dave Miller
Tim Tetrick

For major Northeast "raceway" in the past 40 years (Meadowlands, Roosevelt and Yonkers), one might look at Case, Brennan, Webster, Abbatiello, Gilmour, Billy OD.  For diagonal-gait one might add in John Patterson and look at (again) LaChance, Pierce, Cambell and Webster.

Any list that doesn't include Campbell and Herve should be deleted.

Brian Sears cannot be left off any list IMO. He was a top driver at the M against the best drivers in the world for a long time. I agree with everyone on your list but it should be the Top 6 drivers of all time with Ron Pierce added if you make your list a Top 7.

Big no to Sears because:
- he doesn't turn and burn
- he doesn't get into spastic contortions under the guise of "urging"
- he apparently has no afflictions with his bottom as he sits still in the bike
- and worst of all he's a finesse driver which doesn't wash with the grandstand goofs

With Brian Sears, Ron Pierce was my next choice, however, I also hesitated to leave Jack Moiseyev off my list. IMO, it's moronic to say he only accomplished what he did because he drove for Robinson and Pelling in the heyday. My list is the greatest drivers of all time. Not the greatest statistics, accomplishments, trophies, etc. of all time. For me it's about talent, ability, skills, how you would rate a driver in the various categories of those skills and attributes that drivers must have. With that, Jack is on the list. So is Ron Pierce. I looked to take one off the list, and add Brian. I thought about taking Mike Lachance off the list and adding Brian. I'd still be OK with that top 5, but I just didn't. I thought about taking Herve off the list, but then I said to myself, no, you just can't. I think many people take Billy O'Donnell off the list and they add one of those others names. No, I wouldn't.

So with any 5 of those 8, I would not argue with anyone's top 5.
