After winter training, the big boys will ship north to wherever. A few smaller people will ship to wherever. Those are the people who can still make it a year-round venture. Others can't. You may have a few take a job for the winter and then decide to keep the job and go north. Just check out Sunshine Meadows (and SFTC if there is anyone left there) for the smaller operations. Joe Pavia and Fred Grant are still there. Joe will absolutely have somewhere to go. Fred is slowing down quite a bit and I don't know how much stock he could ship with. Mickey McNichol is training a few for a friend of his. Jake Huff, Jarold Hawks, Laurie Poulin, and others are there.

SFTC sold & closed down a few years back. Overgrowing with weeds now.

I had four cheap claimers in the early 90's at Pompano Park. I was young and foolish. LOL! Many of the big trainers and drivers from those days have passed on or retired,. Young guys (in those days) like Wally "World", Kevin Wallis, George Nap Jr. , Jov Pavia Jr., Bruce Ranger, have all wound up on their feet. With Pomp's closing, many of thpse trainers like Mike Deters and Jon Hallet have moved north and seem to be doing ok. One of my favorite guys, Andy Santeramo has left the busineess. A fun guy to play poke with! LOL!

Santeramo announced his retirement just before Pompano closed. He was in the process of selling all his equipment.

  • Bitter Truth: That Golden Tempo , I'm afraid is  a money burner. Gets so far back. Was in range but just hung and raced even in the stretch. Didn't see a Derby winner in there in my opinion.
