HISA UPDATE--Making racing worse.

I was talking to a trainer from PA racing at Parx--real eye opener.
Trainers thrown out regularly-at amazing pace-he said pretty soon  be lucky if a few left!
One trainer got 10 years and 100,000$ fine for VIAGRA!!!
Others thrown out for Robaxin and the list goes on
Out of Coopetition testing is done on EVERYBODY--no corruption like that in State run jurisdictions--where certain trainers warned of impending inspections etc.
This is a good thing--EXCEPT-ANY MEDICATION -not given by a veterinarian-that shows up in testing-even when not in to go--will result in fines and suspension. So if a trainer gives anything even if a Vet not around--hes liable to get himself suspended.
Veterinarians--now have a free reign --to charge ludicrous prices for simple medication like Bute,Banamine etc
They have of course-now got way more paperwork to do--because they have to hand in everything they did-every week on every horse they treated.
So costs have risen exponentially-- the horses suffer because not all trainers can afford to give medications when paying so much to the Vet.
Texas-has already given up on HISA--lets see how it plays out.

It's making it worse for the dishonest trainers, vets, owners etc. FYI..It is against the law to administer any non OTC medication to a horse without a valid prescription.

Saw this posted on a site that figured out the cost per start at different tbred tracks:

The amount charged each track is based on a per-start calculation that factors in numbers of starts and the total purses paid out. As such, the per-start calculation can vary quite wildly between different tracks, with Los Alamitos charged a per start fee of around $85 and Kentucky Downs looking at a fee of over $1,000 per start.

There is a very serious problem. Period. States, racing commissions, track ownership/management, and other organizations have failed to resolve the problem, and/or even address it. Period. The first person who goes through the door always gets bloodied. The solution, whatever it is, whatever it begins as, whatever it ends up being, is always a work-in-progress. It always has bumps in the road, fixes, revisions, adapt, react, and so forth. It's never perfect. It's progress not perfection. Growing pains, hiccups, and so on. In the end, it works out. If it doesn't then it's not the end. HISA was necessary because other efforts, other reform, other solutions were not happening or forthcoming.

The USTA said a lot. They did nothing. Perhaps because they were unable. Doesn't matter. But they had a lot to say about someone/something else that not only tried, but did something. All they did was oppose and criticize. Nothing more than hecklers from the stands. Don't be a heckler. Get in the game! Something, a lot had to be done. Those who did nothing always have a lot to say when someone else actually does something.It is nothing more than criticism. Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better and sometimes that in and of itself is progress.

Harness racing can’t afford to not have HISA. It’s literally the only chance it has of survival. Whatever the cost it’s well worth it if it sVes the sport from extinction.
