Vernon 10th
« on: October 21, 2023, 09:23:22 PM »
Can anyone tell me what happened in the 10th race at Vernon Downs. No. 2 Sassy Hanover slams into the wall in warmups and dumps Claude Huckabone Jr.(hopefully he's ok) . Then they let the No. 2 race with a new driver and he's not a factor. The race starts and No. 6 never made the start. After about 5 minutes the announcer calls the race a no contest. But quickly caught his mistake and says the No. 6 didn't get a fair start. I've never seen anything like this. Corrected version.

No idea. But track announcer said " very good start". Lol Its rigged was back around utica at the start.

Pretty typical vernon race  ngc3. I remember when vernon had a p6. The pools would be about $18 every card. The payoffs were always like 2 out of 6 for $2.20. Good betting track though travey brainard lit it up there for awhile.

Vernon Downs is another B-C level track being held up by another crappy casino. The handles per race last night ranged from $3,500-$9,500.  Trifecta pools under $1,000, Superfecta pools under $500. Why Jeff Gural bought this dead track is beyond me. The same goes for his other NY track Tioga Downs. The racing is very low level horses. Most purses are in the $4,000-$6,000 range. Why would anyone want to own a horse and race here? Unless you own and train a horse there you are losing your ass.

You have to turn the sound off and pay no attention to the numbers they post as horse position during the race.  Actually interesting if you listen and watch as sometimes the horse in the 2 or 3 hole is suddenly  in the back of the pack.

  • Calhoun: Thx I'm leaning to the 5 there.  Those CD/GP full field races look the best on the page. 1/2 length from being a G3 winner.
