Bulldog did it at 4 -- 3yr old WR is 46.4.  Yes, Bulldog is the fastest overall, but his 3yr old mark was 48.
The greatest ever?  That's definitely up for debate.

Undefetred in Open co. and at one time literally the most famous athlete alive. free legged is even more astonishing.

Good point but it's easier to dictate fractions and horse placement with essentially a 2-horse entry -- no serious competition and a short 5 horse field.
