As a driver I will be the first to say that jockeys deserve more than drivers. I know several jocks and it's a shit life. You freeze in the winter, if you take a spill there's a good chance you will be severely injured, the constant worry about weight. If I gain 5 pounds it's no big deal. If they gain it they're sitting out without a job. Plus the reputation of not being able to makie weight. . And the stuff they go through to loose weight...the puking, the sweat box, pills. It takes a toll on their body. So yeah, they earn it.

It should performance driven. If the driver stiffs the horse out of the money the owner loses, the gambler loses, the trainer loses their % so why should the driver be rewarded.
