Monticello and Meadowlands renaissance handles so far in 2023
« on: February 21, 2023, 11:20:09 AM »
Both racetracks have been doing superbly so far in 2023! In fact, Monticello did almost $1 million in handle last Thursday and it beats Yonkers' handle by a lot daily!  The Meadowlands has topped $3 million nightly every single weekend, with $3.8 million the topper this past Saturday.  By contrast, Pocono downs has paltry handles with a lot of races.  It will be VERY interesting to see where Monticello's handles go to once the Resorts World Newburgh slot revenue is applied.

I remember when the Big M did a million on track, every sat, and 800k on Fridays. It's never going to be that again

As far as Monticello and the purse increase -- I actually think it could hurt their handle --- for whatever reason, people like to bet the product -- increase purses will drag in new clientele which could upset the way things are currently.

Purses -- Meds seems like they are racing for less money than 5 years ago, but handling well..... Don't necessarily correlate purses to handle... If that was the case then tracks like Yonkers and Miami Valley currently would be two of the highest handled tracks.

Bartlett and Jordan Stratton racing weekends now at the Meadowlands has definitely raised the handle with every race having a solid driver in every sulky.

The drivers and trainers at Monticello love the handle increase, easier to hide their fixed bets

The biggest race fixer in the country lives in Monticello and bets every day. When he dies or goes to jail, the handle will be cut in half.

aldrich?

He’s an owner not a driver. He pays the driver to keep his horse out of the money and I’ve been told he is also part of the group that can bet in to the first turn after the bell.

Andy should be in jail unless living your entire life in Monticello can be considered a close 2nd.
