RED MILE RACING
« on: October 10, 2022, 12:13:27 PM »
TIME TO DO AWAY WITH THE BIG DAY ON THE MILE OF CLAY

JUST TO BE CONSISTANT

ONLY 1 WINNER, COULD BE CONSIDERED TO HAVE COME FROM BEHIND, JUST LIKE YONKER

IS THAT GOOD RACING? OR SHOULD WE JUST TIME TRIAL EVERYONE AND PAY THE FASTEST

 its a problem everywhere
when the front end does not slow down there is no hope for anyone more than a few lengths back
horses can only go so fast making up 5 lengths from the 3/4 in is usually impossible

the problem is 6 and 7 horse fields where two trainers have 80% of the entries...in the not too distant past there were 9-10-11 horse fields, you had an earlier second tier forming and it was easier to follow a live helmet.  Also, many of the races only had 2 or 3 legit horses, others were auto toss for one reason or another.  Used to love the racing at Red Mile...now not so much.  Earlier in the meet however with the 3 tiered stakes program, fuller fields and better racing if you went back and looked.

Last one out turn off the lights. All horses can sprint a mile now. Longer distances might change the landscape.

i agree the racing format etc is not the best especially from a wagering perspective
however the lights appear to be burning brightly as lexington just smashed the sales records
at least for the next 5 years or so the handle is of less importance, its about the sires stakes money and what the casinos have to contribute as their cost of doing their gambling business
purses strong and going up and quality of horses never been better

PERHAPS IT IS TIME TO CHANGE THE WAY WE HANDICAP RACES
MORE OF THE EURO VERSION.
ASSIGNING THE OUTSIDE POST IS ONE THING, BUT IN 6 HORSE FIELDS, IT DONT WORK
SO LETS PUT THE BEST ANIMALS A PRESCRIBED NUMBER OF LENGTHS BEHIND THE OTHERS IN THE FIELD

IT MAKES THE JOB OF THE RACING SECRETARY MORE IMPORTANT, AND I DONT KNOW IF THE CURRENT ONES ARE UP TO THE TASK, BUT IT MAY BE WORTH A SHOT
