Gary DiLeo still has a job?
« on: July 10, 2022, 09:22:13 AM »
When it comes to interacting with the fans, no one is better at it than Gary DiLeo. From his post in the winner’s circle, he is in constant communication with the fans.

“I’m there for them and I love to talk to people,” said DiLeo. “It’s good to have the fans get questions answered by the drivers. It’s a one-on-one personal thing, I get paid minimum wage for 2 nights a week and it’s a good thing.”

I asked Herve a question and he spit at me and missed.

I asked Bill O'Donnell if he was drunk and John Campbell laughed so hard he was still laughing when the race went off.

I asked Jim Taggart if his poor driving was just no talent or shit for brains. He just smiled.

The Meadowlands’ long-time marketing and event host Gary DiLeo was referred to on national TV as “the hardest working man in horse racing,” and those who know him understand why.
DiLeo has been on staff at The Meadowlands for over a decade now, and in addition to his winner’s circle duties, he does paddock tours, seminars for parties in Pink, and can regularly be seen walking through the building interacting with the fans.

“Gary is a fantastic team player,” said Rachel Ryan, Meadowlands’ director of marketing and event operations. “We rely on him tremendously – he helps us with events, race presentations, customer service and more. He is available at any time and is willing to step in and help get the job done. Nobody does what he does 2 nights a week for minimum wage."

DiLeo would go on to have a tip sheet, called “Harness Insider,” that he sold at the track.
“I sold mine for $10 when everybody was selling for $2,” said DiLeo. “I went to $10 thinking people would think it was better.
“That didn’t work out,” he said with a laugh. “But then I went down to $5 and I was doing okay but when people realized I wasn't a very good handicapper the sheet didn't sell and I needed a job so here I am."

He should tuck his shirt in and look a little more professional.

Why does everyone at this track always have to mention that they work for almost nothing ?
