Wonder what could’ve been; Walter Case Jr
« on: November 10, 2021, 09:46:31 AM »
I watched him on a simulcast the other day up in Maine and could only think how awful it is to see him drive now.  The guy absolutely got what he deserved for what he did.  No doubt.  But seeing him driving $3,000 claimers at some track named Cumberland and not even winning many of those races..... sad.  Just makes one wonder if he had over 11,000 wins when he got convicted in 2004, what he’d be at now?  300 more wins/year from 2004-2021 roughly be at 16-17,000 by now?  Needs to hang up the whip for good...

Casey! Very sad situation. Talent wasted by bad choices, lack of self control. May have been best driver ever, especially on smaller tracks.  I don’t know his numbers on mile tracks.  Probably should retire, but it is his choice, just as it always has been.

I live in Maine and am saddened about Casey. In my humble opinion, he was one of the best. Now racing for "peanuts" at Cumberland. I guess not many jurisdictions would give him the "ok" to race in their states. So he's kinda stuck here in Maine. Once a great state for harness racing, the sport has fallen on hard times. Very sad.

If he still had hands he would be winning at the D track. Foolish comment.

GOAT if not for problems, would have over 20000 by now, real waste of talent, but deserved better after paying his dues!

Well I know he was a great talent but had too many demons. I remember Case always getting in trouble for kicking horses badly during a race. And it is no secret he went to prison for an attempted murder on his wife or girlfriend. I think it is best he stays in Maine where he has a better chance of doing better with his life. I doubt any other state will let him drive.

He abused the horses back in the day. Kicked many and was fined/suspended often. Then he almost kills his wife/girlfriend. Sure he had magic hands but I can’t feel sorry for him.

I live in Maine and have had a chance to chat with "Casey". I think that despite missing the "big time", he has found a "comfortable place" racing in Maine. Many great drivers have come from our great state, but i think Walter might have been the best. His bad choices ruined what i believe would have been a legendary career in harness racing. He's certainly not the same kid i watched when i was a kid. He gets an occassional win or two at Cumberland and Bangor but they are few and far between.
