Tonight’s fourth race was declared a no contest due to a tote malfunction in the stop betting that caused wagering to be open during the race.

Race 4 on Tuesday night we sat around for 15 minutes with no result announced. Then it is announced that race 4 is a NO CONTEST with no explanation???? All money to be refunded with one exception, the PICK 3. It was the start of the pick 3 and it became an all race. If you had the next two race winners you were rewarded $6.20 for a $2 bet. Yonkers Raceway and I hate to put it this way "is fucked up"

Betting still open after race started,

Here is the way it works at most racetracks. One of the Associate judges , in the judges stand , has the responsibility to "shut the  windows and close off the betting activity. This shuts off the tote and supposedly only accepts wagers already in transmission from other locations.   Years ago , the latter transaction did not exist

35 years ago at the old Foxboro, on a winter night, there was a new Mass State Steward in the judges stand ,  on his first night on the job. The Presiding Judge explained his responsibilities. One of these was to shut down wagering  when the PJ gave him the signal/word .

It got fairly warm in the officials stand , so one of the officials opened the glass windows 4 or 5 inches to cool off the booth.

The starting gate was in motion , and as the announcer said "they are off".......The PJ said  "Close the Windows"..

The new State Steward  walked 10 feet away and closed the glass window that had been opened earlier.    The PJ noticed money still rolling thru the tote board.......and suddenly realized what had  happened......... .and again told the State Steward......but this time told him "close the mutuel windows"

No changes were made to betting

there is also the mutuel manager who is supposed to watch every race to see if the judges did lock the race. so open betting has at least two people not doing there job.        stand, i agree with you. while i understand late money can be legit in the system before the race starts, it does seem to play out as you said. horse with easy lead drops out of sight. 2-5 shot jumps and ends off at 3-1.  certainly seems betting after the start.

Roosevelt Raceway

$50 and $100 windows on the side on the 1st level

the guy with the binoculars watching the televisions

as soon as the car pulled away he saw who was leaving PRIOR TO THE STARTING LINE and called out the number

the teller punched out as many win and place tickets as he could before the loud bell rang as the race started

sometimes he scored, but he always knew his horse was leaving!

That was the call game. they did good until the drivers found out what they were doing. I worked for a guy who used to send three guys to Roosevelt or Yonkers with two thousand every night to play the horses this way. The guy I worked for was a degenerate gambler. He lost a fortune between horses, dice and betting the numbers.
