I only bet on horses with class.  That leaves Pompano out.  And I've been there.  Cesspool ... and that was in the early 80s.  From what I hear it hasn't changed.

the condition of the amenities or the location etc at tracks is meaningless
they are a  tv production to fill the airwaves and allow wagering
even before covid nobody went anyway
why spend money on the grandstand or food and beverage when no one comes anyway
they are better to spend money on top flight hd signals, camera angles, track lighting for video clarity  etc
that does not hold for the major tracks like mohawk, meadowlands and one or two others who host the big races, they need to do all they can in those areas to encourage customers to come even if it is just on weekends and major race nights

theres not one track that is self sustaining, maybe calx is best of the best but if thats what we hitch our wagons too then just close the doors.   harness racing refused to clean up and soon enough this pandemic will shutter them like the rest of america

Agree 100

Agree 100.  Not long ago takeout was 1/3 for track, 1/3 for state and 1/3 for horseman.

You know all this.  But tooday's horseman has no clue and no care for the bettor.  They all do know the cost of a new F-250 and where to get narcotics.

Calhoun,  You and I are almost in complete agreement on tracks needing to be shut down. I would disagree with you on 2 tracks. Meadowlands should be closed. The ONLY reason Gural agreed to run it, is with a chance at a future casino there.  The other track, I know I will sound hypocritical because of my stance on welfare tracks, is Running Aces. They should remain open, only because they do one thing that all other harness tracks do not. Running Aces actually has PEOPLE go and watch the races at the track. If the "sport" is to survive, it MUST attract a fan base. With so much regulated competition, harness racing is in a death spiral. Only attracting the public's interest, will allow it to survive, long term.

      Sincerely, Silent One

While I agree, I wish the track management who know that this business has turned into an internet / stay at home game would up the TV program and quality of video and sound.

I peeked in on a race at Freehold on Saturday and I think they are using the same video software program that Raceway Park had in Toledo.
