These are NZ's best horses for the most part. The winner caused them to line up twice and when the tapes let go, the outside horses had a 2or 3 length head start.  That starter should be out of a job because Purdon's horses got flyers from outside and finished 1-2 and 3. The best horse in that field IMO was Copy That who drew 1 and was second last on settling.

While I know New Zealand is light years ahead of the U.S. when it comes to Covid-19, did the people, who attended, realize it was a harness race they were going to? There were more people there in attendance for that one race, then the entire Yonkers, and Hawthorne meets. It makes one wonder if there is actual integrity in the racing down under?

The only COVID they get comes from People returning from overseas. They all, including Kiwis have to go in quarantine in Hotels for two weeks.

Israel Adesanya (UFC champ) came to USA and now cannot get in until he goes through quarantine.  The only way you stop COVID. There are only 52 active cases and only 25 people have died since it started there. Only 1900+ cases which is incredible since there are over 5 million that live there.

Starter fired, contract revoked for that God Awful start

They raced Monday our time and they are back again tomorrow on 3 days rest

Purdon's top horse who they think is as good as Lazarus is scratched as he did not eat his feed after the race or next day. Must have been the zillion times they gave him standing start practice before the race. He had raced in 5 previous standing start races and missed away or galloped every time even though he won two of those.  Miracle that he began in that race a few days ago as they had to line them up twice and he got a 2 length head start on most of the others. Purdon said when he began like that in the outside, there was nothing going to beat him.

He had two in the NZ FFA tomorrow that ran second and third plus the 4yo Mare Amazing Dream who has drawn the 2nd tier but Purdon said she is good enough to become the 1st 4yo mare to ever win the NZ FFA as 4 yo's hardly every win that race and like I said, no 4yo mare has won it.

The man in charge of Tuesday's controversial New Zealand Cup start has been replaced.

Long-time Canterbury harness racing starter Peter Lamb was informed by host club Addington he will no longer be their starter, with the role going to former assistant starter Ricky Donnelly.

The start of Tuesday's $540,000 Group 1 great race was widely criticized after the horses drawn wide were walking up to the start when the tapes were released while the horses drawn inside were standing still.

Punters were outraged by the unfairness, especially as hot favorite Copy That was the worst affected as he was so sluggish away from the ace draw he was never a chance after.

Lamb, a former trainer, has had a sometimes troubled relationship with several key horse people, undoubtedly not helped by the fact he also works for the Racing Integrity Unit as an investigator and has worked on the long-running Operation Inca.

It appears Tuesday's starting debacle was the straw that broke the camel's back as the Australasian-wide outcry in the harness industry made Lamb's position untenable.

Whether he keeps his role as starter for the other clubs in Canterbury, who have the right to employ whoever they want from Harness Racing New Zealand's officially registered pool of starters, remains to be seen.

Lamb was informed he will no longer be Addington's starter before today's Ashburton meeting.

But no official statement was made by Addington officials until tonight so as not to unfairly impact his ability to perform his duties at the Ashburton meeting.
