They were satisfied with the handle because it was close to what they do on a typical Friday. Meadowlands usually handles about $200k on track so the empty grandstand had minimal impact on the handle.

but what was typical of a Friday minus 200k doesn't seem like the goal they should be striving for.

Not when Northfield and Scioto are racing on the same night and handling 2.5 million collectively or more

with purses tonight at the Meds === Meds need to handle 3.76 million to cover purses at 5% return from ADW.... but does not include expenses like staff, utilites, maintenance, etc.

As Gural said --- everyday we race, we lose money --- Jeff is probably for that sports book to reopen....

They are on average to handle less on a Saturday. They are lucky to get a 5% split. It all depends how much of that handle is in the state of NJ. The % is lower to out of state ADW betting. Sport bettors have turned to trading stocks with no takeout with having no trading fees.

No doubt these closed outlets and on track have hindered M1 handle. But, I thought they would still be doing more. I am happy to see the "B" tracks are putting much higer numbers. The problem is though, everyone but the track and horsemen are getting a fair benefit form the numbers.
So, if the tracks can not realize the benefit, there is another notch in the belts of casinos.

Horatio Hornblower, you are something else.  I live in the NYC/NJ market.  The 2 main OTBs in NJ are Winners at Bayonne and Favorites at Woodbridge.  Monmouth Park also has a nice simulcast following.  All three are currently CLOSED.  The Meadowlands is currently CLOSED too for on site betting.  Once all 4 are allowed to reopen there will be a nice increase in the total handle.  Believe it or not, not everyone bets on their computers.  I for one do not and am waiting to go back to the Meadowlands once it reopens to the public.  Favorites at Woodbridge in NJ is one of the most successful OTBs in the country and it is shut down now.  Facts!

NO OTHER TRACK IS OPEN EITHER

GOT A KWESTION FER YA?

DO THEY HAVE INTERWEBNET IN NEW YAWK AND NEW JOISEY YET?  IF SO, HAVE ONE OF THOSE PROTESTERS, GO LOOT YOU A COMPUTER OR ONE OF THOSE NEW FANGELED PHONES THEY GOT NOW A DAYS

The lack of otb and live attendance hasn't hurt a single other track running in the country.

Something must be up with distribution. This isn't due to a particularly large segment of metro NY who don't bet online. That is silly.

I do agree the 2 night handle was really disappointing. Thought 4 million a night was possible and 3 would have been an easy number . Maybe unemployment hurt ? Hell to have the Ohio tracks rival them is unfathomable .
