Most stakes will likely race. Conflict between grand circuit and local sire stakes very likely now due to diminishing days to race. Not sure why Cal Expo the only track racing. Races can be conducted with minimal risk by limiting personnel and using multiple barns to race out of. No public. No owners. Only grooms, drivers, trainers and race officials. Would keep people and businesses employed as well as owners solvent.  Captive audience with simulcasting due to limited racing opportunities to wager on.  If you have horseman and horses stabled on grounds and training, then you can have racing.  No reason to further economically decimate this industry and those that rely on it for a living.

Cal expo is the only track racing because it is the only track that generates its own purses.

Tracks are not closed, aside from Jonkers originally, to stop the spread, they are closed because who is going to pay the purses?   Saratoga could have continued and purses were to be adjusted to handle, the horsemen refused to race for 400 bucks.

Until casinos can be reopened, which will be at least 7 months there will be no racing.

New York has decided to skip the budget leaving no chance to get money at one time destined for Sire Stakes.   Cuomo has said after this is over they will do a retroactive budget and cuts to many funded programs is to be expected.   I would assume every state will go this route as everything is shutdown.   Trust me horse racing was already at the bottom of the list, now it isnt on the list.

The sport should have protected itself but the sheer greed of 98% of owners, trainers, officials, track management and the disrespect shown by the drivers to cheat, not try and fix races has totally taken away any outside support.

You reap what you sow...

Where are you getting all this information about $400.00 purses and 7 month casino closures from juice?

400 might have been the lowest condition.   Figure 200,000 on a card handle, purse account gets about 3% towards purses.   At 10 races is average 600.   The horsemen refused to race for handle generated purses, Saratoga isnt giving the horsemen a nickel.

Casino’s will be one of the last businesses to receive the all clear.   This is based on contacts at del lago in waterloo.   There is no way to stop the spread in these places and no way to vet every customer.
