Last year Pocono was not open on Saturdays in the month of February.  It is this year and that can detract wagers to the Meadowlands.  The subsidy works when all of the tracks are open in the spring and the Meadowlands can then compete for horses instead of losing them to Pennsylvania, namely Pocono and Chester.

The state is not going to be interested in hearing about poconos 300k handle as an excuse.

Also, I doubt the state will acknowledge valentine's day, los alamitos  dark night or a 3 degree temp change from last year.

The handle must improve immediately, substantially and remain consistent or the subsidy is gone.

..."can not dominate"? The Meadowlands consistently garners the majority of the harness market, in the USA. Pocono, $300,000 vs M1, $3,000,000. A 10:1 domination. When all tracks are in full season, about 12 or so racing the same night as M1, The Meadowlands will still have better than a 50% share of the market.
 The challenge is adding new customers to harness racing.
