Just read on Facebook that the sire stakes will be run next week July 6th, 8Th, and 9th. People wanted the dates changed, but they couldn't. We have dual eligibility with Mass. Can the Mass trainers or other state's trainers who have Maine eligibles race their horses or are they not allowed in the State?

Did their Governor make an announcement yesterday? They didn't update their website. I went to the Mass State website and it has Phase 3 opening planned for July 6th.

Crazy but did you hear the news last night China has to the start up a new pandemic from swine flu of all things again! He told me there's a meeting I mass today! Also the downs should take it upon themselves to allow those Mass stakes horses to ship up here it wouldn't be right not to allow them

swine flu we at least have a vaccine from the out break a few years ago.   the ridge is our only hope and i heard on boston radio that things could be pushed back on re opening.  while its great the stakes will get 1 leg in, whats next for number 2? what about people who were assuming the first leg was going as posted, they might be a week or two before they are ready.  this is a mess because of a virus but the changing things at last second with no plan ahead is not good.  heard at meeting yesterday msbs were all set to run as non betters at windsor fair, yet bill mcfarland mr windsor fair himself, had not even been asked about the possibility. come on people talk, think plan.
i do believe that the sire stakes horses could be made an exception to any quarinteen now that we hit july. unless the queen in augusta changed things again.

mills as well as the rest of our elected leaders need to be voted out. from day 1 of this its been a tit for tat , pick your nose, throw a dart at it approach. nothing makes sense. we got people from all over coming up to maine. they shop with no masks, dont follow any quarentine. we might as well do, either open all up or shut everything down.    so far the horse people have been pretty good at following the guidelines. im sure the mass and ri stables would too. seems to me starting by mills rejecting sports betting, that she is against any gambling. no rush for the casinos or tracks to re open to the public. she should shut the lottery down too then.  if its all about saving us from the flu then shut everything in state down, not just us.

After listening to yesterdayís Racing Commission meeting, it is vividly clear we need a clearinghouse of activity in state government positions with the MHRC. After four hours I learned Downs closing on July 10th and that Bangor racing unlikely for awhile. Now with Mass on verge of a lengthened reopening due to Covid, I question when Mass will receive if at all this year. Remember....We are in the middle or earlier parts of Covid-19. Given what Iím seeing in Southern Maine, it looks like things could get worse versus better for awhile.
Anyhow, Iím happy to hear about potential Downs racing in September until December, I am Highly disappointed one of our fairs such as Cumberland canít pick up some dates for July and August. With Ridge delays possible, I wonder where horseman are going to race for a couple months?
I feel for all horsemen who love the sport and rely on income from the sport of harness racing. With more transparency and communications, these would be appreciated actions by all. Iím amazed that well within a major pandemic that some tracks are setting record handles. I question if Maine marketed signal of racing and if it was strategically offered and timed, what the overall capacity for handle improvement and purse structure could be. I doubt we will ever know until a new track is built, further strategic legislation is realized and passed, and until Maine people appreciate the effect harness racing has on numerous businesses....our challenges will deepen and harness racing here will be a matinee event.
Our horsemenís association needs a new beginning with forward thinking from our leaders. All our local states have casinos and harness racing is advancing. Why canít Maine people support a Racino and support for harness racing. It benefits our economy and agriculture.
My fear is harness racing in Maine is on verge of destruction. The Sport of Kings is the oldest sport in America. We will overcome everyone and are extremely capable of promoting and actualizing the changes we want to see. Our day is coming! In ALL KINDS of Weather! Be well and good luck to all my fellow Maine horsemen:

Mills sure did fool me prior to being elected. She made horsemen feel like she cared about harness racing; however, her actions donít truly show this. I donít see her administration having any real advocacy for the sport. Racinos and sports betting need to be allowed. States around us have supported and are benefiting from revenues. Why canít we? Harness Racing can be a great business that can be promoted and advanced in VACATIONLAND!! Please put a new track in a highly strategic area. Pass legislation for a racino and sports betting. If this is done, our sport could fly.
