i have to agree. ranger is a bit better but all of the drivers mentioned can drive pretty good. they all are getting older but a good horse they will get the job done. maine gets made fun of a lot on the site but many great horse people drivers and trainers started here. in the day racing was pretty good in maine. sadly the slot money has not really helped too much. handle dropped , scarborough closing, tough times are here now.

Ranger had six winners tonight (Friday) including a $25 ticket and a $30 ticket.  Doing the job with more than just 3/5 favs.  Can still drive a bit.

To chief yogi

I always thought you posted some intelligent thoughts.  But trashing Mike just moved you off my list of posters worth reading.

Next time you are listening to Mike call a race...take this test. Close your eyes and just listen to his calls. You will be able to "see the race", just by listening to his calls. Having driven horses himself, he can anticipate the next move of some drivers...or the moves they didn't make.

Comparing him to Roger is an insult...….Mike always calls the right horses

A comparison to Larry Lederman...….is more suitable.

Then again, I guess you would prefer  the "listen to what I have to say" Mike Sweeney
Or , the moanings and off color remarks of   Lloyd "I should have retired years ago" Johnson.

Lloyd is like Roger....listen to him for a week...and you would be reaching for the "mute" button

That leaves Bill " should have bet him" Ellis.........ano ther announcer who thinks HE is the show. His annual performance at the Cumberland Fair......is vomit endusing..especia lly his track side interviews.
He must have something on Mike Timmons...to be invited back year after year.

Tell us yogi...what do you want in an announcer ??        And name some you prefer........all must  be living.

You forgot one of the former Maine announcers from the Lewiston Raceway days...then a short job as announcer at Pocono Racetrack when Walter Case was being shifted from track to track ......he resurfaced as a Judge at Bangor, then at  some of the Maine fairs, the I believe he became an associate judge at Yonkers.

Do any of the Mainers remember his name ?
