While I wouldn’t ever donate money to a guy who has done the things dean has done in the business, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.  
And maybe this is just me but, I can’t imagine donating money to anyone who is going to turn around and claim my horses with it.

i know there is no money in this sport, but is there any reason why racehorse barns are not built to be more fireproof? That barn went up like it was made of kerosene soaked kindling and old newspapers.

Any barn fire is horrible, since a number of horses inevitably run back into the barn when turned loose, but in this day and age you think it would we would have less of these fires and they would be less destructive.

I realize most racetrack barns were built a hundred years ago, but all these training centers should have been constructed to higher standards.

Agree! Especially at the prices they charge for stall rent. $300-$400 per month per stall you would think they could at least install a sprinkler system

You nailed the issues but the bottomline is greed. Do guys like Eckley care one bit about horse's welfare? I know there are a lot of horseman that do but this guy doesn't seem to be one of them. If the horseman cared they would negotiate a % of slots welfare to horse well-being improvement. I'd imagine a guy like Eckley would juice a cockroach if they were racing for purses.

Reminds me of Herve Filions  capital hill farms fire  back in 1979 he lost 48 horses almost all owned by him . Never recovered .
