Any Logic? Regular Gambler
« on: April 25, 2018, 06:36:44 PM »
Can somebody tell me any logical point of gambling on harness racing if you were your regular gambler on a Friday night after work?

The product is boring...
The pools are horrid....
Same distance every race...
ETC

So my question, "What logical reason would any regular gambler have to go gamble on a Friday night at the majority of harness tracks with the intentions of having a decent time and losing money?

There are very few, and I mean very few gamblers that are profitable over time.  The take out from betting, playing poker or slots makes even a winning bet a bad bet.  The house or track is the only guaranteed winner.  Unfortunately, the tracks winnings no a days don’t pay the overhead and slot subsidies support the system.  Gambling dollars on horse racing are on the decline.  People do it because they enjoy it, are gamblers and can’t break the habit or are participants in the game and that’s part of it.  Not exactly the best use of one’s discretionary income but each to their own.....

How's this for logic.... when one learns the game and understands the intentions of the various cheaters... there is plenty of cash to be made betting against the rest of the dumb suckers who don't put the time and effort in.

So you expect your weekend gambler that has no inside knowledge to "understand the intentions of various cheaters"? So a weekend gambler is receiving a viable and fair product gambling on harness racing?... You just elaborated what the entire issue is of harness racing and really all of horse racing...

A degenerate like myself with no inside knowledge or just your weekend gambler know full well their going to get cheated. It's just the mental state of the game because so much cheating is going on.... A gambler would rather waste their money on a product knowing they will be treated fair.

The best part about competing against degenerates is that they really have no interest in winning.......... ................. ....... I am in the minority on this, even though experts agree with you.I have been betting for 46 years,I have seen it all,I just don't believe that many people do not want to win,I am probably wrong, but through my life experiences,i just do not think it's true

I can agree with this. I've hit many huge tickets, and get pissed off with the logic of I wish I would have done this and made more money lol... So I get pissed off when i hit winners... So yes I agree with this... My biggest high is placing the bet and going into post cause mentally I feel like I'm going to get rich off this one bet.... Just being real here ;)

Some of us know it’s a losing proposition - just like going to a ballgame or whatever entertainment you like - you pay - have some fun - and hope the home team wins

You have to go to the track & watch warmups.Their are always automatic toss outs which shorten the list that can beat you.Rather take my chances at the track then go to casino & be fed 12's,13's,14's at the blackjack table.

Cheaper and less painful than hobbies such as drugs, alcohol, sleeping around, tattoos, bungee jumping and yachting.

Some skill and sport involved.

Some entertainment value.

But, logic wouldn't be my number 1-15 selling point.

Now that I don't have stock anymore, I try to be conservative with my bets.  Here's the problem, it's like playing premium hands in Holdem', if you are going to follow through, those Aces better stand up.  Last night for instance, there was a mare in at Meadowlands. I know the horse and the driver.  Shes a nice mare with one really, big move and it is usually a winning one. Unfortunately no tacticle speed.  At 5-2, I thought I'd won the lottery, however, Pat managed to get her into every blindswitch and behind every horse in the race.  Didn't get a check. That was me throwing darts.  I knew I should have taken Somoa Joe-4 over Cena.
