From what I remember reading was that when the change was made all of the drainage was redone and the composition of the base and surface was changed. I saw a above view and the track is like a tear drop with the large sweeping far turn.

The track was rebuilt and reconfigured thus the base was altered. The escarpment is subject to all different kinds of weather and temps. Relatively a new base then expect the unexpected.
