Transportation to track, getting horse ready, lasix if they are on it, whatever else....usually at least on east coast I see $300-$500 per race...I canít comprehend how it costs that much. I could see around $300 maybe.

It's about ,800 depending on where u race NY shipping etc etc. Is expensive

This is a true story , that happened 40 years ago , around Toronto.  An NHL Hockey player , having a good year, decided to buy a colt at the Fall sale. It was his first horse, and in the barber shop , near the track ,where many of the horsemen went for a haircut , he was telling everybody how excited he was to own a race horse.

A couple of months  later , in the same barber shop, he was asked if he was still excited about owning a race horse. He answered "yes" , but turning to some of the horsemen in the shop, he said he had some questions about his latest bill from his trainer.   He told those gathered in the shop, that his most recent bill had an item  " 3 gallons of Absorbine Jr."   His question was " where would my trainer put 3 gallons of Absorbine Jr. ???

One of the horsemen gave him a quick answer....." on your bill " !

It never fails to amaze me how owners will lay out tons of money for a horse but never do any research on the trainer they are going to employ!! Then after the fact they cry about being over charged!

A horseowner friend of mine had a pretty good year,(Nihalator's 2 year old year)...so for tax purposes he bought a 5%  share of Nihalator.

The next year , Nihalator made well over a million $$$$.

He met Guida in early summer, and asked when he would be sending out "returns" to the shareholders, as he had not got any bills or statements from Guida.  Lou said , as Manager of the Stable, he had decided to settle up ONLY at year end.

The year was over...and true to Guida's word........he received the year end statement.   But instead of a check, for his share of the profits...he got a bill............. .........as  Guida showed that expenses had exceeded earnings !!!!!!

I have had horses with some of the northeast best trainers and have never been charged for harness. I expect that all of mine should have their own bridle and hobbles. Will dispute the rest. Who has ever sold one and got his gear back? You soon learn.

I have bought more equipment than I care to remember for my horses that always ended up being adopted by the trainer. My favorite on the training bill was always the miscellaneous charge. Also when your vet will do the work for half price for cash :1 :1
