Really American
THIS IS HUGE: Darline Graham, the senator who admitted national security is "not my thing," tried to blame Democrats for Trump's war with Iran. Annie Andrews answered with the truth.
The two met Sunday for their South Carolina Senate debate, according to The Daily Beast. Graham took over the seat after her brother, Lindsey Graham, died suddenly in July.
When the war came up, Graham told voters not to forget how it started. Democrats, she claimed, let Iran almost get a nuclear weapon.
That's not what happened.
President Obama negotiated a deal in 2015 that significantly restricted Iran's ability to produce weapons-grade nuclear material. Trump tore it up in 2018. Iran started openly breaking the limits the following year.
Graham also claimed Iran is the weakest it's been in 40 years and that no one will trade with it. In reality, China has kept trading with Tehran throughout the war. And she asked why in the world we would stop now.
This is a war Trump promised would last a few weeks. It's now in its eighth month.
Annie Andrews had a different answer.
"21 American lives lost should be enough," she wrote. "This war needs to end."
She's right. Twenty-one American service members are gone. Iran's closures of the Strait of Hormuz have sent gas to $4.36 a gallon and diesel to a record $6.28, driving up the cost of just about everything.
Andrews is a pediatrician who has spent her life caring for children and families. She's running to bring our troops home and bring costs down.
Graham admitted just weeks ago that she's not that informed on national security. Andrews doesn't need a briefing to know that 21 lives is too many.
Thank you, Annie Andrews, for standing up for our troops
