What Happens to all the Burke horses?
« on: March 13, 2026, 05:01:42 PM »
Ever wonder what happens to all the horses that Burke races then you never seen anything of them again? Occasionally they will sell a few on OnGait, a token few at the Blooded Sale, and keep the good mares for broodmares. But what about the hundreds of others?? Rumor has it that they have their own person that is responsible to take care of disposing them by means of giving their meat to zoos etc. Just another secret they keep. What do you think?

Think you need to get off the pipe if you believe any of that rumor!

What’s your guess then?? Unless they have been claimed you never ever see anything of them again! Rumors are rumors but when you actually think about it, it’s a valid question!

It is a good question. There are many horses dumped and needing help. I don't recall seeing Burke horses in kill pens.

I can assure you the principals of the Burke brigade can afford to send the odd one to an aftercare program or simply retire a few horses once they are finished competing.

They aren't in the horse slaughter business. Mark and Ronnie are pretty quick to clean house when it needs, they sell at Delaware or what ever they call it now. They are always moving pieces around.

They sell the junk to a dealer. The ones that are good to them go to breeding shed or get retired like FA. Just like every other stable.

Horses are living animals. What is a junk dealer? Amish?
