French Harness Racing
« on: January 12, 2025, 08:19:37 AM »
I'm watching Vincennes from Paris this morning and it's an ordinary card with no huge stakes. It is 40 degrees/overcast there.

And they are standing 2-3 deep at the rail during the races.

How do they do it? How are purses funded? What are handles?

There are 250+ race tracks in France. 155 are for harness, at least according to the FRBC (French Racing & Breeding Committee) website:

frbc.fr

Anybody have answers?

The French have a very erotic sense of culture. It is on display in all of their leisure activities and a lot of times in their food.  Some parts of the country have a don’t ask don’t tell policy about prostitution.  The cops sort of look the other way.  This is in stark contrast to Belgium where the cops will arrest people for even asking where they can find a prostitute.

Nice info, ol'yeller. But, nothing to do with harness racing unless your trying to get your old stead laid.

Even though I didn’t delve into the racing part of it .. I thought that was implied.  My point about the  extremely erotic culture does kind of lay the groundwork for the large crowds and number of venues.

Gotta go & enjoy yourself at least once, been there 4 times & can't wait to go back.

Alot of North Americans make it over each year, tons of beautiful animals
It's a great game, if you have the means to play

To my amazement. Horses in the paddock AT VINCENNES CAN BE given a dose of syringe down their throat in clear view of everyone. Does anyone know what they are allowed to give the horse?  PLEASE NO WISE ASS COMMENTS PLEASE.

Great topic,,,,,,,,,,,,,,France is the only place on this planet were harness racing is bigger then the runners,,,,,,,,,,, They put on a great show with great pools but a very high rake,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The show is everything and you can win huge money hitting winners in massive fields and you do not see horses going from 18-1 to 4 when the gate leaves,,,,,,,,,,,Without dealing with issues and covering up you have north american racing,,,,,,,,,,,,, France most winning trainer PATRICK BIANCONE IS barred from french and hong kong racing with no chance of a second chance and in NORTH AMERICA life time ban has no meaning and groups like HISA ARE USELESS with people running it who have little understanding about the game,,,,,,,,,,

Is that done by a vet or a trainer/ groom?

I see grooms and trainers giving it, plus usually just one person in the stall. I am very curious about what they allow to be given in a clear site.
