Actual Trainers/Drivers please!
« on: October 20, 2023, 05:13:31 PM »
Since there seems to be a malaise of violence towards our horses currently ( a new one in Ohio ), I ask this question. Have you ever had a horse come back to you cut and bleeding from whip use by a catch driver? Stifles, ribs, ass end, thigh, scrotum? If so, what did you do about it? Did you ever use that driver again? If you were the driver, have you ever done this yourself?

Rhetorically, isn't this animal abuse equal to or passing what he are seeing now with greater frequency?

TY!

I’ve seen dozens of horses come back to the paddock stalls with welts
Never any cuts or wounds

They weren’t my horses so I didn’t stick my nose in it

If there’s a driver out there that thinks hitting a horse that hard makes them go faster, they are clearly amateurs

I respect you, but if I furnished names of drivers who have sent a horse back bleeding, that i have witnessed personally to one extent or the other, you would call me an abject liar. Not that I am unwilling to, just wanna see some other responses first. BTW, my list? DEFINITELY NOT AMATEURS - The exact opposite.

No doubt whipping has changed dramatically last 20 years or so, but in the day there were some notorious stifle blasters and guys who like to get under the shaft. tmbz1

One of the reasons I like the very top drivers like Brennan and Sears is I rarely saw them take a whip to any of our horses. If they did use the whip it was more of a light wake up call not a beating that others do.

Ass end and stifle welts never blood. After a race I have had lines thrown at ME, if that counts.

I am glad to see the days of "stifle blasting" "caving ribs in" "one timing" "cutting them" "leashing" "sidearming" and "educating them" are over. I still like cracking the disc.

Any replay of Matt's Scooter would have today's stewards salivating at the fine they could dish out

My friend,
You would not like the crack of the dics if,
You are coming up fast and going by the leader.
The leader waits till your horses head is even with his wheel.
He cracks the wheel disc.
Your trotter makes a wild ass leap to escape the sound of a gun shot.
Your green pacer takes a sharp right turn and heads straight to the grandstand.
Been There!   Done that!
I am just an old horse trainer still going around in circles. Sometimes Fast. Sometimes Half-Fast.

I hope you broke his jaw because that isn't acceptable (throwing the lines at you).

Cant argue your points and you drove, I didn't, but it sure as hell will fire one up.

Grant you it always seems to "spook" the other guy.

I was being a bit sarcastic. I know it's dirty poker.

You obviously came along well after the rawhide whips. On a hot humid day you would get welts even trying to be nice
