Is it time to ban Show Wagering ?
« on: May 27, 2023, 09:18:42 AM »
Is there a purpose for show wagering other than to appease the small bettors ?
Would that little bit of money be placed into other bets in the race to help those pools, even slighlty worth it.

Follow a little European racing where most tracks do not offer show wagering.

(good topic bad topic just seeing how long it can go before we start talking about blowing a guy in mom's basement)

as a small time gambler --- I thought that the tri and Pick 3,4 going to smaller denominations was good thing for me --- But I agree, go back to $1 base bet and hopefully fewer people hitting these gimmicks.

The track makes a percentage on Handle, why not have every betting scenario as possible?

the $.10 and $.20 for tri and pick 3 and pick 4 ruin the payouts
as for show wagering i would keep it although cant remember the last time i made a show bet, but i would keep just for the odd time the bridge jumpers get hit , thats kind of funny

free of charge i am going to give tracks what denomination they should be using on bets
wps, minimum bet $5
exacta is $2
trifecta is $1
pick 3 is $1
pick 4 is $.50
superfecta is $.50
pick 5 /6 is $.20
high 5 is $.20

now you will start to see some decent payoffs with fewer people hitting them
also in 40 years we have actually reduced the minimum wagers or kept them the same, any other industry done that and not reflected inflation etc over the last 40 years

Always wondered why anyone would play huge bucks to show on a harness horse. Im sure folks on here know this. Seen a fair number of these get dumped; especially at small tracks. If anyone is prone to this foolish urge, i would recommend at least take a 1/9 in a major $$ purse race.

I bet against bridge jumpers at times. Thats the better play.
