Who has been to Dresden Raceway
« on: June 05, 2020, 08:59:04 PM »
I worked up in Canada for a month about 15 years ago. I had an evening off and found my way to Dresden Raceway. they were closed but open for simulcasting. Walked in to the room under the grandstand and there was one worker who had a betting window, a beer tap, rack of chips that also had simulcast programs and there was one guy sitting at a table smoking a nasty ass cigar... Lasted 4 minutes.
Place made Saginaw look like Keenland

Dresden ready for opening day
June 5, 2020,  by Gary Patterson, for Dresden Raceway

Dresden, ON — When starter Dave Prior calls the horses behind the gate for Sunday’s (June 7) first race at Dresden Raceway it will be a different feeling as Ontario’s Little Saratoga’s grandstand will be empty.

“It will be different with no fans at Dresden,” said driver Tyler Borth, adding, “It’s a track where you can feel the excitement of the fans because they are so close to the track.”

Borth is hoping for a good season this year at Dresden.

“I have to be on the top of my game because we have some good drivers at that little track but I know I will be competitive.”

Dresden Raceway’s opening day card will feature 10 races as horses and drivers compete for more than C$41,000 in purses. The track will be getting some attention from American betters as the signal will be broadcast on betting sites Twin Spires, TVG and Ibet.com.

Post time for the first race is slated for 1 p.m. and qualifiers will be held at 11 a.m. with all COVID-19 protocols in place.

Ahh Dresden..southwes tern ontario's 'little saratoga'
Early 80's it was my summer stomping ground each week..coming up from leamington (and the home of that raceway)

Dresden Raceway now runs sunday afts..i find it runs to pgm. and that's all you can ever ask.

But back in early 80s. Dresden, terrific little half mile...solid crowds fri night and sun aft.
Always crowded. Lots of tellers (inc blonde and busty farmer's daughters)---- and yes, in august, surreal look..grounds surrounded by tall cornstalks...

Goudreau, Wall, Duford, Kerr just some of the names -- part of really fun shows.

but that was then..

*now..i play dresden sun afts from toronto via hpibet.

We spent a summer there in the 80's.  Was a happening spot.  People I remember, a lot of the McFaddens, Ed Burns, Ken Hornick, Wayne Hinnigen, and I believe the old man Dufurd has some sons who are still in business.

Playing this card today ... but the camera work is making me nauseous.

Feels like I’m watching Blair Witch Project
