thank you wiggles
not sure of your point
many of the purses you show are inflated by oss races
regardless some of the tracks have been doing well with guaranteed pools and upgrading their signal etc
the industry need tracks like this for young trainers and drivers to learn or just for some part timers to own and train a few horses for fun
also there needs to be a place for these horses to race, they cant all race at mohawk etc
and they are actually great places to go on a summer afternoon and see some racing, have a beer and enjoy the afternoon

THAT THE BIGGEST LOAD OF CRAP I MAY HAVE EVER READ.

THEY ARE NOTHING BUT WELFARE STATES, THE HORSES AND HORSEMEN WHO RACE THERE DONT DESERVE THE HANDOUTS FROM TAXPAYERS. IF THEY CANT CUT IT AT THE BETTER TRACKS, THEY DONT BELONG IN THE BUSINESS.  THE TIME TO SHRINK THIS BUSINESS IS NOW

don't concern yourself
the Canadian  government has just wasted billions of Canadian  taxpayers money
it sends  hundreds millions out of the country to third world countires for god knows what
this little bit is a rounding error
so if that is your onyy argument it is weak
if this money allows canadians to be employed and do what they enjoy and allows other canadians to ernjoy an afternoon at the races than i am all for it

I elect you as Racing Czar, couldn't agree more. When Subway came around, all the little Ma & Pop sub shops disappeared. Same with introduction of Walmart and Dunkin Donuts and so on. It's the way she goes, boys. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't.  All -- and I mean ALL -- of the tracks in Canada and most in the US are on slot welfare support, period.  Without the handouts, they close, plain and simple. Stupid horsemen cry poor me anytime the notion of ending slot welfare funding is raised, but do absolutely nothing to prepare for the day when it does happen.  I welcome the day it happens, because then all that we'll have are the Subways, Walmarts and Dunkin Donuts (i.e. Burke, Alagna, Bongiorno, Moreau, Auciello, etc...) and then the playing field will be leveled because everyone will be a drug cheat. It might be a good thing for the business.  We'll see soon enough...

DeeJennerit Subway sells the worst sandwich on the planet, Walmart has nothing but imported junk that put North American workers out of work and Dunkin Donuts has garbage coffee and don't call them donuts. If that is the best you can come up with don't bother. These smaller Ontario tracks have short seasons and because they are rural the fans who vacation in the area spend their money in the area and the track is a day or night out for them and the locals. When the big city trainers and drivers race at these smaller tracks it's for Sire Stakes which draws a few extra fans but the regulars will watch rather than bet unlike a normal day or night.

What a retard. I can't even be bothered to reply. Anyone worth having a conversation with realizes what a retard you are, so I don't need to bash the unabashed. Have a good day, Frostbite.

I see deejennerit  that you are an economics major...NOT!!
if you think wal mart is the path to follow for local economies and even countries boy are you out of touch
wal mart and others has almost destroyed the usa economy, eliminating most usa based production to import shit from china
and all those jobs that local people had making decent money in factories( yes union supported most of them) quickly turned into minimum wage jobs working at wal mart
and now the usa dances to the beat of china and others, trump could see the problem
if you think local horse racing is a serious issue or drain on economies and government funds you need to taker a wider look at things
the deficit is so large it likely never gets paid back anyway
so chill and enjoy

Amazing that some people here want racing gone-now using subsidies as an excuse to get rid of smaller tracks.
Pretty much all of agriculture -of which racing is a part of-- is subsidized. Agriculture is heavily subsidized in every country. Farmers and their equivalent have a special place in national traditions and are seen as necessary for self-sufficiency in time of war or famine. In fact, the greatest blockade to the elimination of all tariffs worldwide is the fighting over agricultural subsidies (prop up your guys) and tariffs (block external competition).
Last year agriculture was subsidized to the tune of 20 BILLION!--and on this forum-a few want these smaller tracks to close over a few THOUSAND$$. These smaller tracks are entertainment for people and do provide a source of income and jobs . Im thankful they are there--went there as a kid and have happy memories-and hope they are here to stay.

Amazing how some people want to lump harness racing into agriculture.  Every single Ontario citizen relies on agriculture in the province of Ontario.  Not too many give two fucks about harness racing.  I’m sure if you told them that their tax money was going to be used solely as just “entertainment” instead of the health system or schools they’d be wondering why.

so growing hay and other things that horses consume is not agriculture
vets and blacksmiths should be unemployed

all the people that become unemployed when you shut down racing will now get jobs in healthcare and schools where the money( by the way a insignificanty small % of the budgets for healthcare and schools) would be redirected

amazing !!

Watched a really good Russell Brand YouTube video yesterday that discussed how this exact scenario, of the horsepeople helping the casinos establish and grow their business, should become partners in that business.  Much like the Uber drivers who are helping train the self driving cars that will one day replace them should become shareholders in Uber rather than unemployed by the robots they trained to help grow the business.  So is it welfare or is it royalties?

Brown Jug happens in all business. Keystone pipeline was shutdown Biden said we will get you a green energy job. Well that never happened. Government picks winners and losers all the time at some point harness racing will get that call and if tax payers knew the story they would have voted harness racing off the island a long time ago. Some of the tickle down players you mention will be on the losing end. Governments are hemorrhaging money all over the globe from covid and that isn't going away anytime soon as 5BLN people remain without a vaccine. Variant after variant will mutant leaving governments to fill gapping budget holes. If B and C tracks need to contract that maybe in the cards.

Provincially and Federally what each taxpayer in Canada pays as tax to the Governor General which is the Queen's extortion is ridiculous. A real government who wanted to stay in power if they would cut ties to the Queen and England would never have to worry about winning an election as every citizen would have more money in their pocket, but that will never happen. Every government sees how easy it is for the Queen that they conjure up these BS policies and taxes to get their share. As I have said before we the voters paid for the government to try and get rid of organized crime so that they could take it all over which they did and yet they say we still have to fight crime which is BS.

What is this tax called? I have never heard of it.

Brown Jug myself and many others included. Yet not one party except for the PPC have publicly come out and said they would abolish it. Some have referred to what each person is charged for the CBC no different than when the mob built Vegas on the Teamsters Pension Funds.

Consider yourself lucky. You could end up with something like Fox & CNN.
