Title: Meadowlands 2/5-6
Post by: old guy on January 23, 2021, 10:04:20 AM
There were only two wins by US born drivers last night. It seems that way most nights.

That and 30% of the better fields imports from down under. Often 50% at Yonkers. Also, a large % of European owned trotters, trained by European trainers.  Not a plan for success for the US harness industry.

They are also hungrier!  US drivers have made alot of coin last 5 years and several getting up there in years.  These cold winter nights don't look as appealing as they once did.  That being said these guys coming over have exceptional hands and seem to work out a trip.  Having their choice doesn't hurt much either.

Going to sleep last night I found myself wondering if the Australian drivers are just that much better than the north americans? Three are going great - the two McCarthy's and dunn. Maybe, but sometimes this has to do with the fire power there getting. Several Australian barns are firing  - cassar, harrison, norman.

I think the Australian drivers are right there if not better all in all. Would help the north americans if tetrick and Sears were there. Though Sears sometimes doesn't seem to attain his old lofty levels when the purses are lower.

Mark MacDonald 0 / 46 misses gassed up Casey Coleman days
Jason Bartlet 0 / 25 misses Banca
Simon Allard 2 / 49 misses Rene
Marcus Miller 2 / 27 misses daddy’s EPO days
Joe Bongiorno 3 / 49 misses his EPO and Shock machine

i don't see how statistics and facts are hate
i would think if you are wagering you should pay attention to those numbers
would be a stretch to think those numbers are not related
clearly just firing everything to the front is not working for these guys

Probably because Dunn & both McCarthys are MUCH MORE TALENTED than the rest of the driving colony there now!

Agreed and there are 20 or 30 more drivers over there in NZ and Aussie that would whip these guys here as well. They will always be better because of the variety or racing with different distances, bigger fields and they race much closer.

Superior drivers all day long

Simon is just plain dull-witted. You don't have to be a wizard to drive a horse but he remarkably stupid.

Plus from NZ Blair Orange, Dexter's brother, John. Any of the Williamson Brothers (Their father Phil is the best trainer of trotters over there and the sons all train and are good). Those drivers are all from the South Island. There's a bunch of good ones up there in the North Island.

I'm a big Corey fan, but hasn't been all that good lately and really bad at M1.  Hasn't been getting the best stock to drive either.

He needs to take his hand holds up and stay at Dover!

Now Miller and Tetrick were not there but still.
