WASHINGTON, PA, July 25, 2020--Papi Rob Hanover blazed his way to the $375,000 final of the Delvin Miller Adios Pace for the Orchids in a world record 1:47.1, a world record for a 3-year-old colt on a five-eighths mile track. Also winning eliminations Saturday at The Meadows were The Greek Freak and Catch The Fire.

Joining the three winners in the Aug. 1 final are Later Dudes, Chief Mate, No Lou Zing, Sweet Truth, Capt Midnight and Elver Hanover. Connections of the elimination winners will choose their post positions Tuesday, with their order of selection determined by random draw. All other post positions will be randomly drawn.

The Meadowlands Pace runner-up, Papi Rob Hanover was comfortably in front after quarter-poling to the point for David Miller following Captain Barbossa's unrealistic 25.3 opening panel. The son of Somebeachsomewher e-Panera Hanover reached three-quarters in 1:20.3, but he wasn't done yet, clicking off the final panel in 26.3. Sweet Truth was second-placed third,10-1/2 lengths back, while No Lou Zing was elevated to second.

Brett Pelling, who trains Papi Rob Hanover for David McDuffee, said he wasn't concerned that the swift mile might leave him short next week.

"He came out of the Meadowlands Pace great, and he proves he needs to race. He just needs more racing," Pelling said. "Every race has been better than the one before, so he's on the right track.

"Could he bounce off that? He's a big, strong horse. Nothing's ever knocked him around yet, so he'll be fine."

The time knocked a tick from Betting Line's previous world record. In addition, the mile is the fastest ever paced at The Meadows, lowering Bolt The Duer's former standard of 1:47.4.

He didn't look sound after the race.
discussed on a facebook page that he pulled up badly and walked back to the paddock very sore by horsemen.
But then you read the Pelling interview regarding how fast he went and he didn't seem concerned... Sure Pelling has something for 'that'

Could just be a foot abscess they look the same. Shadow Play was broken bone lame after the 1st heat of the Jug. The blacksmith cut the foot until he got to it put a bar shoe on and within an hour he won the 2nd and final heat of the Jug. Hopefully that’s all it is. If it’s a coffin bone break that also depends on what part of the bone it is and if it’s operable or not.

Let’s be real though, either way, there is ZERO reason to push him to a 47.1 esp if not for huge money and/or in the Finals of a series.  Not saying it couldn’t happened at any speed... but definitely pushed him wwaaayyy to hard.

Yes , remember Glidemaster before the Hambo elimination couldn’t walk they had the blacksmith on him day and night . Blair Burgess was thinking scratch him but they got him put back together. If it’s soft tissue who knows ?

typically I ask -- do times matter anymore ?

but then doing that mile winning by 10 kinda shows me how fast he was.

I've know David Miller for 35 years. No way he asks that horse to go that fast up by 10 unless hes doing it easily

Ya try and knock Dave Miller, remember they just took him off Real Cool Sam, that didn´t work out to well. He is one of the best big money drivers there is, horse UNDER wraps. Ya also have to wait and see what happens next sat, or until Bret says something which I highly doubt. Only thing I will add, Cams Card Shark was scratched lame at the Jug and never raced again.

I don't know if the "injury" is true or not but that horse did it pretty much on his own.  Dave asked him to draw off down the back with a gentle reminder and had his whip over his shoulder the entire stretch.  If Captain Barbossa doesn't go 25.3 first quarter there would be no world record.  This horse (if he's OK ) is a true monster. Pelling probably thought it was a good "tightener" considering all the overland trips he's had this year.

Broke down or not, I checked his eligibility and he is indeed on the stewards list for being lame. Hopefully nothing serious, but had to be real lame after that mile to get put on the list. I had one crack a coffin bone that only had a slight nod coming around the turn after the finish. Walked near normal. Xrays revealed cracked coffin next day.

Pull is eligibility on the usta. Says it right at the top. I tried to post a screenshot but can't figure out how. Definetly on it though. Hopefully nothing serious and he can come back and be a top colt the rest of the season whether he's in the adios final or not.

There is nothing wrong with Papi that a decent trainer can’t fix. Nothing broken walking sound. He will train in front of Judge before the draw and checked out. If all ok he will be removed from Stewards list and race on Saturday. This horse is the best in the Country right now maybe the best since his Daddy. I’m his biggest supporter. Great horse great connections.

A Very Nice Horse!!! I hope to see him race again but if not then He will have a Great 2nd Career at stud. We need horses like Papi racing to create some rivalry between the good ones. The next meeting with TDS would be epic!!!Those two are in a class of their own for the 3 year olds. In my opinion this class is as deep a class as we have seen since 2012 and TDS and Papi tower above the rest!!!

Papi Rob Hanover suffers broken coffin bone; done for at least this year

David McDuffee, the lone owner of world champion Papi Rob Hanover, told HRU Monday night that an MRI has shown that the pacer has suffered a broken coffin bone, will miss the rest of the racing season and is likely headed to stud.

“There’s no question there is a fracture there that will prevent him from racing this year, anyway,” McDuffee said of the career winner of $927,979 trained by Brett Pelling. “It’s, obviously, a very tough thing to even think about for him because I think everybody started to realize what a great horse he is and that his best days were, obviously, ahead of him.”

On Saturday (July 25), Papi Rob Hanover and regular driver David Miller recorded a 1:47.1 world record for a 3-year-old colt on a five-eighths mile track when he won his Adios elimination at The Meadows by 10-and-a-half lengths. On July 18, Papi Rob Hanover started from the 9-hole in the $636,650 Meadowlands Pace and lost an epic stretch duel with Tall Dark Stranger by a neck in a 1:47.2 mile.

McDuffee said while it is possible Papi Rob Hanover could race next year and beyond, his preference is to find a good stallion home for the son of Somebeachsomewher e out of Panera Hanover. The owner said he believes Papi Rob Hanover will be a breed-changing sire.

“I think he will probably go on to be one of the best stallions this sport has ever seen,” said McDuffee, a modest man who is not known to speak of his horses with such high praise. “He’s just an incredible animal and I would actually prefer to go that route than bring him back next year. I think he’s destined to become a great stallion and I say it because physically he’s the most impressive thing you ever looked at, he’s got conformation, he’s a smart horse – some horses are gifted, but they’re not too bright – he’s got everything going, including pedigree. My preference is to find a good home for him and more than likely I will.”

A full story about Papi Rob Hanover, with more thoughts from McDuffee will appear in Wednesday’s edition of Harness Racing Update.

Horrible news.  At least the horse is OK.

Always B Miki fractured both pasterns, got screws put in  and still came back to set the world record.  Coffin bone is worse but unless he has a low sperm count it's doubtful we will see this one again on the track.

Good luck to Mr McDuffee  and Papi Rob whatever the outcome

“I don’t think his injury happened at The Meadows,” he said. “I believe it occurred in the Meadowlands Pace when he hopped for a moment and David (Miller) had to take hold of him. If he’d shown any signs of injury, we wouldn’t have raced him at The Meadows. You saw how easily he won his elimination.”

Quite possible.

Title: Re: Papi Rob Hanover- Meadows Adios Elimination
Post by: Harness Stats on July 28, 2020, 03:55:06 PM
OK so IF it happened at the Meadowlands then that horse set a world record on a track that's at least a second slower than Pocono WITH a fractured bone.   How much of a monster is he?

McDuffee also said he won’t make a hurried decision on the horse’s future.

“It’s not a life-threatening injury; it will heal in time,” he said. “There could be a lot of records he could set at 4. Stallion-wise, he’s also generating a lot of interest. He’s a very special, smart horse. Papi Rob will be heard from again.”

Not taking anything away from Allywag. He is a nice Colt as well. I am just not sure Allywag can get around all the tracks. Might be best on the big ones. Could go huge at the Red Mile. IMO he seems to hit his knees or something going through the turns. Once he is straight he is lightning fast. Don't count out TDS. One race does not make a season. Still would have been fun to see them all compete. To be the best 3 year old you have to show up for 4 or 5 months and dance with the best. Time will tell who can do that.
