Pig, Saratoga is opening up on June 7th..purses will be 25%-30% less, probably the latter. I know a lot of horsemen personally, and these guys will gladly sign up for this decrease at this time..I think all horsemen would sign up for that decrease, at this point
agree they would like to race for 30% less purse money . but how about 90% if no slot welfare?

Local paper in Albany was anticipating in yesterday's edition that State affiliated casinos might reopen in late June.
A few native American casinos already open in ny.
We'll see. From what I be reading ngc3, danger of serious co-19 is increased in indoor settings with a lot of people present. It seems the amount of viral load may be a factor in how acute virus impacts.
I'm staying away for awhile.

Cuomo not opening casinos(racinos) for awhile. Saratoga handle gets them about 5,000 for purses. The actual cuts are going to be huge. Horsemen destroyed their own sport so there is no fan base to keep them going.

Most NY tracks will have qualifiers first and they can't have them until June 1st when tracks are allowed to open. Tioga planning on qualifiers June 1st and 3rd with first racing card June 7th. Vernon qualifiers June 2nd and 4th with first race day June 10th. Other tracks probably doing something similar. Way too early to see a condition sheet. And those dates still need approval from state.

VERNON — Vernon Downs will start harness racing again on June 2 with qualifying races, if all goes to plan, according to owner Jeff Gural.
Vernon Downs Casino Hotel has been closed due to COVID-19, but there is a plan in place to get back to racing, Gural said by phone Friday.
About half the trainers and drivers at Vernon Downs live locally, while the other half are mostly in Florida, Gural noted. While those who are out of town tend to return in early May, that was not the case this year. There is practicing at the track now, and soon there should be racing.
“Financially it’s been a disaster,” Gural said of the impact of the pandemic on business. “The bulk of our employees are on furlough” and are receiving unemployment. Vernon Downs, he noted, has continued to provide health insurance to its employees. “Our key people have been on staff, and we’ve hired back a bunch of people,” he said, for racing and renovating the hotel.
Gural said the plan is to start with “qualifying races on June 2 and 4, and start racing on June 10.” The initial schedule will likely be Wednesday and Thursday racing at 4 p.m. in June. It might eventually switch to Thursday and Saturday. Racing will initially be without fans in attendance, though there will be betting by mobile device.
“It will take a little bit of time to adjust,” Gural said of learning how to manage such things as masks and social distancing for those involved.
“We have to be careful. We don’t want anyone to get sick,” He said employees will likely be tested by the company.
The lack of sports might even be a boon to racing at Vernon Downs, Gural said. “I think it helps, not having the competition that we usually have with other sports. We’re hoping that people will tune in and watch more racing.”
Though racing is going to restart, Gural noted, “We’re not going to have as many races as we usually do.” The season will likely end in early November, though that is based on an estimate about how much purse money will be available. “We will still have all the Stakes races we were going to have, maybe even more because some tracks don’t want Stakes races.”

NY racing ruined by racetracks not giving a shit, drivers not giving the bettors a fair shake, speed favoring half mile tracks. But the state is most responsible having inept, clueless racing officials and useless testing program.

TIOGA and VERNON DOWNS UPDATE
Nichols, NY - Live harness racing will come to both Tioga and Vernon Downs the beginning of June with qualifiers the first week and live racing the next.
Following the orders of Governor Cuomo, racing will get underway on the first day permitted with qualifying races held and Tioga on Monday, June 1 and again on Wednesday, June 3. At Vernon qualifiers will be on Tuesday, June 2 and Friday, June 5.
Live racing will kick off on Sunday, June 7 at Tioga and follow a Sunday - Monday schedule with a post time of 4:00 PM for all cards throughout the month of June with no live crowd and only remote wagering.
The first stakes to be raced at Tioga will be the NYSS 3YO Colt Pace, Roll With Joe Open Pace and a Graduate Series. All will remain on the originally scheduled date of Sunday, June 14.
Vernon will race on Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11 at 4:00 PM continuing that schedule and the no live attendance policy for the month as well. New York Sires Stakes will be raced at Vernon and we will post that schedule as soon as it becomes available.
With the large number of horses that we expect to enter qualifiers this week we ask that if your horse is currently qualified to race that you do not enter that horse to qualify.
Entries for the qualifiers will close at 10:00 AM the previous day. The qualifying overnight sheet will instruct horse people where each horse will be stabled/held until they race either in the paddock or designated area for ship ins.
Pertinent information on protocol the state will require to participate at both tracks will be made available on the track websites in the "Horsemen" section. Please read and become familiar with the details and come prepared to follow the conditions as written.
All persons entering the property at both tracks will be required to fill out a questionnaire and submit to a temperature check before entering the stable gate and if deemed a risk will be turned away. Once on the grounds you are required to wear face coverings at all times and gloves when practical, maintain social distancing, keep to a minimum number of people in the paddock and minimal contact with others while on the grounds.
Only those horses ages three and up that are stabled on the grounds (including local farms designated by management) at each track or eligible to the NYSS will be accepted to qualify and race at Tioga and Vernon for the time being. Two-year-olds will be accepted for week two of qualifiers.
Horses shipping in will be required to stable in the designated area and leave the grounds as soon as possible after qualifying or racing.
Please keep the warming up to a minimum and keep a distance from others when on the track both warming up and scoring.
Catch-Drivers will have no contact with the handlers of the horses and will wait in their car in a designated parking area with no contact among themselves.They will pick up their mounts on the way to the track. Trainers that drive their own horses and have been working in the stables may participate in the preparation of the horses.
It is strongly recommended that you sign up for Meadowlands, Tioga & Vernon mass text service as a lot of important information will be disseminated via text. To sign up, text the word "MEADOWLANDS" to the number 84700 on your mobile device. You may be required to respond "YES" if you receive a request for response.
We need everyone to adhere to protocol exactly as required by the state. It is imperative that we do everything they ask to the very best of our ability so that we may continue to race. Enduring this temporary inconvenience is what must be done to get back to what we need to do and eventual easing of these restrictions.

And the king of all tracks the meadowlands still has no answer from the Governor. Gural and company thought it was a foregone conclusion they would have the green light last week for next week racing . Hopefully they get it this week .
