Summer nights at sportsmans could and will never be duplicated by any current or previous harness track only something that could be explained if you were there best summer meet in history of harness racing 97 supernite saddest day in my harness racing career knowing it was over!!!!! Looking back on it even though balmoral of 2000 had highest handle in supernite history closing the doors on harness racing there illinois racing was never going to be the same mike paradise actually went to meet up with gill levine in california a few years ago and wrote a story about start to finish supernite 97 of how it went and its just a build up that was so great to the let down it was last one ever at the best facility in harness racing!!!!!! And sportsmans was at its best as a 5/8ths not 7/8ths!!!!!!!!

Luc,

Take us back to the 60's. a young Licprick @ SPK

Tell us about those nights you spent sitting above the SPK paddock.

Rubbing elbows with Sprunger , Insko, Paisley and Burright.

Bumming a smoke from Banks or Busse
Back in the day, sitting above the paddock, he was getting a blowjob from your mother.

We all were.

Now, fuck off, ya drip.

Thanks!

Sportsman’s was the best track in Midwest. I spent every day of every race meet running around pissing off many as a kid. I still see a few here and there and they remind me what a pain in the ass I was. Trainers were cool and every day people. Now some are just so stuck up a kid can’t even walk through their barn without some bitching. The good ole days, the game has changed but the addiction is deep. Was part of every day life then and now. Great flashback videos, thanks for posting. I am usually annoyed by rocco’s consistently obnoxious subjects.....

Above the paddock looking down at Racetrack Rosie . Man what big black cleavage .  She would stop look up and say something like" Hay (Busse, Banks.or whomever) I got your colors on tonight . Win for me baby."
She made her own cloths.

davenchop - read many of your posts before - know youre a knowledgeable guy about Chicago racing...curious what you're saying morgan did,,,i know for a fact he gambled on the races as ive personally seen him bet...I also believe he's one of the very best horseman / drivers Chicago circuit has ever seen...matter of fact he's number one on my list of Chicago drivers...unless you wanna count timmy as Chicago...timmy is then number 1,,,

Shipped into Sportsman Park with 2 trotting fillies in 1985.Shipped into the Dan Shetler barn.Got talking to Dan who figured out i was canadian by my accent and we talked about hockey.Dan told me that he was Dennis Hull best man at his wedding.Seem like a real nice guy.One night i was outside the barn having a few beers and i see all these fire works going off from a distance and i ask a person what was going on and the person told me that it was coming from comiskey park after a home run hit by a white sox.The grandstand on race nights was packed with a electrifying atmosphere and i loved it as it made me feel right at home.Only there for a week but great experience. tmbz1 tmbz1 tmbz1

Actually Davenchop’s post was a repost of what i wrote and he thought he was being a smart ass but if he doesn't know what Tony did then obviously he doesn't know everything about the scene as far as being smart no Tony was just connected to the ihha board at a young age they kept him out of trouble!!!!! But if you myst know Tony is the real reason Ronnie got kicked out and you all can bitch and moan that i don't k ow it but Tony was the rat and Tony is a very jelous person!!!!! Just like alot of tou posters probably dont know who the original driver was on anniecrombie when she first arrived here but i do and let me tell you he stiffed her one nite so bad the owners and trainers told him to never come back to illinois ever again any ideas whos original driver on annie was????

See alot of people forget about tony morgan was pulled over with alot of shit in his car in dupage county and cut a deal to help some of his buddy get lesser fines this was in the early 90’s kinda funny how these people forget how the all american tony morgan things like this go without notice!!!!! But hes as guilty as any driver ever to sit behind a horse!!!!! Thabts why he cried and through Ronnie boom boom under the bus to keep him and his circle afloat long enough to take over knowing boom boom was gonna get what was at the time a lifetime ban

But he also gave her his last ride at sportsmans aswell when he locked her in an unloaded late he cashed a nice ticket but was never on her again!!!! I still have old recordings of chicago harness racing live it was on sportsvision with paradise an flavin she was in her 20’s at that time very beautiful girl was s model at one time and she definitely got around the paddock a-time or two her father gave her a boost in her career as PAT Flavin was a legend,,, he owned thoroughbreds an had an ownership at maywood park in early 80’s!!!! I was young at the time but always watched the 11 o'clock rebroadcast with my father what goodtimes they were sometimes the fans got do loud during gills calls he had to get extra spicey to hear him over the roar of the crowd!!!! Nothing will ever compare to that era of racing an entertainment that was some of the greatest times!!!

Elanor was a party girl back in the day. I was there when she clocked Duke after he was treating Pat wrong in front of patrons. Ended up marrying well and lives in Streeterville.

As for Spk / Spk 7/8...it was the place to race simply because the summer weather, the 3 race (open air) paddock right next to the grandstand, and the very good series of stakes - culminating in Super Night. It was close to the city limits and easily accessible from I-55 and I-290 or Cicero and Laramie Aves. Maywood and Hawthorne didn't race in summertime  back then and Balmoral was the far south suburban track that raced lesser stock mostly.  When  it was 5/8th it had the highest handle in the country for that sized oval.  Best of all the Johnstons didn't own it; the Bidwells did. Billy Johnston leased the track after the t-breds cleared out and headed to Arlington park.

IMO the place was over glorified but you didn't freeze your butt off watching outside, or burn 1/2 a tank of gas getting there. Maywood could compare with RR, YR, Nfld, and the other popular 1/2 mile joints but it was still 1/2 mile racing.  You could make huge scores at Spk too. JMO
