Just like Monmouth Park's internal grandstand was used to house victims of SuperStorm Sandy, Governor Cuomo has announced he will use Aqueduct as a temporary hospital location, much like the Javit's Center.

OZONE PARK - The Aqueduct Racetrack has canceled the remainder of the winter and spring meets on Saturday so that its building can serve as a temporary hospital to care for those infected with the coronavirus.
The New York Racing Association announced that cancelation after Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said he received federal approval to construct a hospital there to serve the borough of Queens with a 1,000-plus patient overflow facility.
NYRA CEO and President Dave O'Rourke said in a statement, "Now that Gov. Cuomo has secured the federal approval, Aqueduct Racetrack will serve as a safe haven for those recovering from this virus. We recognize that we all must work together as a community to meet this challenge and emerge stronger for it." NYRA will now focus on preparing for the 51-day meet at Belmont Park beginning April 24.
"NYRA is continuing to strategize the safest options for a return to racing at Belmont Park, while prioritizing the health and welfare of our staff and the racing community," O'Rourke said. "A revised live racing schedule is an ongoing consideration, but secondary to our primary commitment to the health and well-being of the community."
This is not the first time that the Big-A, as it is known, was used in an emergency. In 2012, NYRA donated the use of the Aqueduct parking lot to the American Red Cross to operate a mobile kitchen and relief supplies staging area after Superstorm Sandy.
NYRA is also going forward with plans for its stay at the Saratoga Race Course from July 16 to Sept. 7.

There is no tests available. If so might be a great idea. Need to hope a quick antibody test becomes available but your talking 6 months at least to become widespread availability after its approved.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued Emergency Use Authorization for a new coronavirus test that takes just 15 minutes to complete.
The test's maker, Abbott, announced the news Friday evening in a press release, saying it plans to start delivering 50,000 tests per day starting next week.
Abbott will run the tests on its point-of-care ID NOW platform, a portable platform that weighs less than 7 pounds and can be deployed to coronavirus hotspots. The company said it expects to produce about 5 million tests per month.
It marks one of the fastest tests for COVID-19 available and comes just a week after the FDA approved another 45-minute rapid point-of-care test.
The approval comes as cities across the nation scramble to get testing done and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The United States on Thursday became the country with the largest number of cases, surpassing China and Italy, and on Friday, the U.S. hit more than 100,000 diagnosed cases of COVID-19.
The availability of testing has been a point of contention as the pandemic has unfolded. On Friday health officials in Arizona warned that the state may soon be unable to continue testing people for COVID-19 because of a lack of testing kits.
The outbreak is expected to worsen in the coming days and weeks as the upward trajectory continues. The U.S. is now adding more than 14,000 new cases per day.
Experts say that a key factor in ending the spread of the virus and reopening the economy is to dramatically increase testing capacity. With increased testing, measures like keeping everyone at home can be replaced with more targeted identification and isolation of sick people.
