Title: Cancellations Courtesy of Coronavirus
Post by: Carnival People on March 10, 2020, 02:14:46 PM
No racing today March 10, 2020.   No reason given.   Racing cancelled.  Best guess is that they are not racing in order to hide all of the SCRATCHED horses.  The FBI may have told them to close.   Casino executives have called an emergency meeting.  French Trotting distancing itself.   It's over, although they will double-draw for Monday and Tuesday on Thursday.

Where do you get that information that he had the Corona Virus?  I am not saying you are wrong, but John has been sick for 20 years.  He has had at least 5 heart attacks and kidney disease.

Yonkers Raceway has announced that Tuesday night’s live race card has been canceled. While no other explanation was made with the announcement, there are rumors that the cancellation is due to possible coronavirus concerns. Harnessracing.com has been unable to confirm that with Yonkers Raceway officials.

Tuesday morning, John Brennan, the horsemen’s representative at Yonkers Raceway, died at age 69. Harnessracing.com was told Brennan was admitted to a New Jersey hospital last Friday (March 6) and was tested for the virus. A story posted on NJ.com Tuesday confirmed that a 69-year-old man who traveled back and forth to New York a lot had become the first person in the state to succumb to the virus.

Sources have also told harnessracing.com that a paddock worker has also been hospitalized, and some horsemen have also been ill.

Bond is correct.  John Brennan is the Little Ferry NJ man who died from the virus.  John was very sick for a long time.  I was surprised he was even alive when I read about is death.  He had about 100 things wrong with him and had been in declining health for years.  But yes the cause of death was the virus.  My question is this.  If the virus is the cause, why are they drawing for next week?  If a paddock worker is sick with the virus, why would they ever chance racing?  This means that hundreds of horsemen have been exposed to the virus.

Have to say there's alot of bullshit on this sight but also firsthand breaking news.  The casino would be the first thing I would shut down.  Given the average age of slots payers and the number of oxygen tanks and wheelchairs I see in there, along with the closed environment and dirty machines, they would be prime breeding grounds for the virus.

Relax, unless you have a suppressed immune system.  This coronavirus thing is a media driven propaganda machine. It mortality rate is less than the flu. And its a 96% match to Sars, how many died from it?

That CFR (case fatality rate) is on the very high end. We have no idea what the exact number is for several reasons. You are right though, it is far more lethal than seasonal influenza.

It's actually, wait for it, a strain of the corona virus.

My daughter is a nurse practitioner in internal medicine and this is what she tells us.

When a virus like a flu or corona virus spreads through a community, the early patients have a higher death rate than usual because these are people who are sick enough with a "flu" to come to a hospital to seek treatment.  Mostly the elderly or those with compromised immune systems.   The vast majority of people who get sick from these viruses usually just feel sick or have a really bad "chest cold" or they have "a bug" and they go on with their lives with Tylenol and chicken soup.  As the virus dissipates into the community to cover a large anount of people, the death rate drops dramatically because  so many more people are proven to have it but do not die.  That is how it resembles the flu.   Overall, the death rate of infected people will be LOWER than 1% because children do not get this virus although they do carry it.   The flu kills kids.  This virus does not.

Harnessracing.com posting semifake news.  They put a big headline for a story

Jason Bartlett in quarantine as coronavirus precaution

But if you read it it contains this ..

“I was around John (Brennan) a little bit on Feb. 28,” explained the 38-year-old Bartlett. I called my doctor and told him what was going on, and he called the health department, and the health department got hold of me. They asked me if I had any symptoms since the 28th, and I said no" Later in the article he states "I’ve never had any symptoms of the virus."

The health dept told him to self quarantine which will be up tomorrow.  He's not in "quarantine" he's home in his bedroom. Headline for the story is misleading and makes it look much worse than it really is in this case

What sense does it make to cancel racing, or race without spectators, like Oaklawn, but leave the casinos open? There is much more chance of catching corona in the confines of a casino then in the grandstand of a racetrack.  Horseman should file a complaint or sue.  If one closes, everything closes.

https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/kentucky/2020/03/16/keeneland-spring-meet-canceled-amid-coronavirus-pandemic/4994915002/

LEXINGTON - Add the Keeneland spring meet to the list of sporting events canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Keeneland’s spring meet is a rite and tradition that touches every aspect of Central Kentucky and beyond, and the decision to cancel racing is agonizing for our staff, our many loyal fans and our horsemen," Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason said in a news release announcing the decision. "During the past several weeks, we have exhausted all avenues for safely conducting our spring meet.

"Since the beginning of this pandemic, we have diligently worked with local, state and national partners in health and government to ensure our actions are the most responsible we can take. We all find ourselves in uncharted territory, but nothing is more important to Keeneland than protecting the health and safety of our athletes, stable employees, horsemen, patrons, track employees and the community at large."

Keeneland had previously announced it would open the spring meet on April 2 without fans in the stands and that it was limiting access to the track to only essential employees, owners, trainers, veterinarians, blacksmiths and stable workers. Four security checkpoints will be set up to check the temperature of anyone entering the track, allowing only those with a temperature less than 100.5 degrees and showing no symptoms of COVID-19 to enter.

The Keeneland April sale, previously scheduled for April 7, has been canceled. The track has closed its general office, shop and library to patrons indefinitely. Simulcasting at the Red Mile Racetrack in Lexington has also been closed.

The CDC's recommendation on Sunday that all events of 50 or more people be canceled or postponed for the next eight weeks led to the decision to cancel the meet

Keeneland will continue to stable horses on the grounds but will not accept any more shipments of horses for stabling, effective immediately. Morning training will go on as normal.

"During this time, we all need to take care of each other,” Thomason said. “In light of the cancellation of our Spring Meet, Keeneland will focus its attention and energy on identifying ways in which we can offer support and aid to the Central Kentucky community and horse industry."

Keeneland had been scheduled to to host two Kentucky Derby prep races, the Bluegrass Stakes on April 4, and the Lexington Stakes on April 11.

Meadows suspends racing
March 16, 2020, from The Meadows

Washington, PA — As you know our country, as well as the world, finds itself in an unprecedented set of circumstances attempting to control the spread of coronavirus. Many governmental entities are implementing restrictions on group gatherings in an effort to thwart the spread of the virus in our communities.
To that end the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has issued a mandate: we have no choice but to temporarily suspend all operations at The Meadows including racing. This will go into effect at 6 a.m. Tuesday (March 17).
This is a very fluid situation. Updates will be announced when appropriate.

In accordance with the recommendation of Governor J. B. Pritzker, live racing at Hawthorne Race Course will be halted for a minimum of two weeks.

In an effort to fight the spread of COVID-19, gatherings across the country are being limited. Per Governor Pritzker’s directive, there will be no live racing conducted at Hawthorne through Monday (March 30). At that time further guidance will be given.

Yes powerful patricks ghost...

Nothing spurs on a slimy backstretch of plotters and their henchmen more than management mentioning across the board Mandatory Payouts, inc the bulging hi5, coming in 48 hrs. (thur night)

Alas the slime jumped in ahead of joe public two nights early, to grab off full 90gs

The great tracks, and there aren't many..but the great tracks, unlike pompano, put that hi5 pool on ice a day or two earlier, unannounced to horsemen, before they get into the kitty like they did last night...filthy swine.  Is it a Forida pari-mutual law that you cant 'suspend' a pool or was it a foolish Pompano management error...Another strike..hasn't Pompano struck out yet once and for all.

Woodbine Entertainment announced on Thursday (March 19) that following tonight’s card it will be temporarily suspending live harness racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park effective Friday (March 20) until further notice due to the ongoing efforts in limiting the spread of COVID-19.

“We have made the decision to suspend live racing in the best interests of the health and wellbeing of our employees, horsepeople and the larger community,” said Jim Lawson, CEO, Woodbine Entertainment. “Throughout these uncertain times, we were always prepared to take this step but implemented many precautionary measures to provide horsepeople with the opportunity to race for as long as possible.

“We will now shift our focus towards working with provincial agencies to provide the Standardbred horse community with financial assistance in order to support horsepeople and the essential care needed for their horses while we are not racing at Mohawk Park.”

FSBOA statement on Pompano closure
March 19, 2020, by Steve Wolf, for the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association
Share via:

Editor’s Note: The Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association has issued a statement with respect to the impending closure of the backstretch at Pompano Park.

It reads as follows.

Pompano Beach, FL — All trainers, caretakers and their horses in the backstretch at Eldorado’s Isle Pompano Park racetrack have been told that they must vacate the premises by March 31.

Notices were sent out to the horsemen and women at Pompano Park late Thursday morning. Flyers posted in the backstretch state: “Closure Notice … For the safety and security of all, the backstretch will be closing March 31. All dorms and barns need to be vacated by March 31.”

“This is just outrageous, dangerous and just plain disappointing,” said Dein Spriggs, president of the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association. “The horsepeople in the backstretch and their horses at Pompano Park should remain stabled right where they are. The backstretch is the safest place for them right now.

“There is almost no place for the trainers to go with their horses and caretakers. Many caretakers live almost year-round in the dorms. Now they want them to move. Where are they supposed to live? This is just so wrong for Eldorado to do this.

“We would like to work things out,” Spriggs explained, “but was told by Troy Buswell, the Isle Casino general manager, at 10:41 a.m. that Pompano Park was terminating the race meet.”

Currently, there are approximately 50 caretakers that live on the backstretch of the track and approximately 650 horses that are stabled on the grounds.

The racetrack conducted live racing without fans in attendance on Wednesday, and now have canceled live racing indefinitely at Pompano Park while Gulfstream Park is still holding their races without any fans.

“Eldorado’s eviction of the horses and horsepeople from the backstretch, along with the ceasing of racing, will cause serious financial hardships to the industry, as well as the safety and welfare of the horsemen and horses,” said Spriggs.

The fine folks at the Eldorado's Isle Pompano Park have finally reacted to to the Covid-19 virus by requiring all horseman to vacate the backstretch by March 31, 2020. 12 days to figure out what to do with your lives and horses.

Failure of Florida Breeders and its President Mr. Spriggs to aggressively deal with this PANDEMIC and the threat to human life have left 50 caretakers, 650 horses, trainers, and many horse loving owners scrambling. This has not happened to this degree anywhere else in America.

Fortunately, the Governor gets it. The Isle management who also closed the Casino get it. LIFE COMES FIRST.

Unfortunately, the FSBOA, its board of directors and Isle Management DO NOT GET IT AND DO NOT CARE about US. We have fortunately closed our ports, restaurants, bars and all non essential business's to protect us from the spread of this killer virus. Harness racing is not and never will be an essential business. As a result of the incompetence and lack of foresight by the FSBOA and Isle Management some of the hardest workers in america could be unemployed and completely screwed with no place to go. This is just not right.

We are a resilient group on the backstretch. Be safe and be careful.

Definitely scum trying to keep people alive.  Remember it is a hoax and everyone can get a test if they want one said our esteemed President. And lets not forget it was "15 cases going  to zero." I guess that is why every governor is on the news saying they have 1 percent of the tests they need right now.  I don't blame Donald for the virus itself but he seems woefully caught off guard.  I guess when you don't believe in science that can happen.  Sad so many people will die and have their lives ruined financially include many reading this which likely have been drastically mitigated if there were tests available and if taken seriously.

all the washington creeps are at fault. hospitals have closed everywhere in my lifetime. now we have bed shortages in times of need like this. would never have happened if we made the freeloaders work and not give them everything free. if we stopped giving every illegal that wants to be here free everything. states dont pay hospitals shit for all the care the freeloaders get. hospitals most of them dont have extra money to stockpile supplies that are now low. washington should have helped months ago. now washington will throw trillions away to prop up what should not have been forced closed. the old old saying a stitch in time saves nine. few supplies months ago saves trillions and many lives would have been saved.

I was thinking last week the safest place in the world would be the Monticello grandstand.  But seriously this is a disaster.  Luckily we can look to a man who scored himself a perfect 10 on how he has handled this. Spent  2 months saying it was a hoax instead of preparing for testing. WHO declared a global emergency January 30, he was on TV saying the cases were going to zero. No masks, tests, preparation...not hing  Did nothing even when Italy started down the abyss.  It makes me angry but what is the point?  I lost thousands and laid off 4 people already.  My trainers are hurting something else.  People on Plop know people who died. Virus and the economics of this know no political affiliations.

TRUMP NEEDS TO FLOAT IDEA OF CANCELLING BOTH POLITICAL CONVENTIONS AND GENERAL ELECTION IN NOVEMBER, THUS MAKING HIM PRESIDENT INDEFINITELY. THEN THEY WILL CHANGE THEIR TUNE.

excellent - America needs continuity, just like w/ FDR

DJT trying to prevent a major, major market sell-off on Mon and Tues with the Fed slashing the rate. DJT wanted his money out of the market before it crashed along with his many DJT lovers. But that didn't happen, because it was a hoax  ngc3 ngc3. Only problem it wasn't, and look for major life style changes and the virus count to substantially increase this week  11.wp 11.wp 11.wp 11.wp.

What's best for the country or what is best for DJT's pocket and personal business interests. We will know that answer shortly  11.wp 11.wp

right now i dont care who makes medical products or finds a cure for this virus. seems like no company is interested in really stepping it up so if trump owned it or donald duck owns it i dont care. i just want things to be normal and for people to not be sick or dead from this.

Right this is Nancy Pelosi's fault not the guy who said it is just like the flu and there were a millions tests available when there were a few thousand.  That's done with now and I don't care much about politics in who can stem the tide of this.

Based on available evidence, you don't think everyone is overreacting a bit?

Just like horse racing, no one knows what the hell is going to happen!  That's why you run the race!  Only question is if we are the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 pole or coming down the stretch.  I'm hoping the cameraman has his camera up.

i keep saying this. all our leaders failed. they all have for years. america has been going downhill for years. what other country hands out free housing, free food, money to live on, and free heath care to people that just snuck in to the country. that used to be against all laws. so now washington is all about greed. every man and woman for themselfs. this is just the first time we had a major crisis because we were not prepaired.

START OF HARNESS RACING

I WOULDNT COUNT ON THAT NOW EITHER, THE RATE OF SPREAD IN THE SOUTHERN STATES IS NOW SHOWING THE CDC AND WHO THAT WARM CLIMATE DOES NOT SLOW THIS VIRUS.

WE ARE FAR FROM POINT OF SERVICE ANTIBODY TESTING, EVEN WHEN THAT COMES ONLINE IT WILL TAKES MONTHS TO TEST EVERYBODY.   AND NOW WUHAN SHOWING DATA OF REINFECTIONS, THIS ISNT GOING AWAY LIKE SOME THOUGHT.

REALITY STARTING TO SINK IN.
