Title: Meadowlands: Friday, April 27
Post by: harnessmaven on April 26, 2018, 06:42:30 AM
Race One:

8 HOT SUMMER KNIGHT.  No Swan.  No Silva.  Yes, Bob Davis.  Wasn’t it a little over one year ago that this same Bob Davis bested Hannah Miller to win The Billings Trot at the “The Big M”.  The key to this race is speed.  How much?  Bob Davis would likely say: “The more, the better.”  His charge, Hot Summer Knight, will be heavily reliant on a speedy pace, up front.  I believe Hot Summer Knight will need a hot fraction at “The Big M’s” quarter-pole in this evening’s first-race amateur trot to prevail in this GSY “Hot to Trot” event.  One thing is for certain, this gelding will be looking for a “tow” in the outside flow so he can be “whipsawed” into position for his stretch run.  If this scenario works out…as it might.  Watch out!  This guy will likely come flying down the lane fastest of all.  The aforementioned Bob Davis is in the bike for “Team Buter”.  Others: 6 Multitaskr Hanover; 5 Party On The River; 3 Shady McCoy.

Race Two:

5 CALIFORNIA CRUISIN.  I’ve had a “Captain Cook” (Aussie speak) at this guy and I like what I see.  Yes, this fella went off at .50 cents on the dollar in his last, yet he disappointed.  He finished 2nd to Long Beach.  A chance to make amends.   It’s the “Aussie Connection,” Andy McCarthy, “The Thunder from Down Under,” is in the bike for “The Crocodile Man” Ross Croghan.  Yes, this 3-year old colt does move a bit further outside, but that shouldn’t prevent him, with the right trip, to get his picture taken in the “The Big M’s” winner’s circle.  Others: 1 Liveonthephone, 2 Pop’s Romeo; 7 Surfing Tide.

Race Three:

7 LUCKY RAINBOW.  “Buckeye’s” back in town, Dave Miller.  His charge, the Muscles Yankee-bred 3-year old brown filly, Lucky Rainbow, finished 3rd in her first 2018 pari-mutuel start.  I believe that tote-hitting start bodes well for this gal’s chances here.  This filly should be tighter for her second start.  This young lady can either go to the front or come off the pace.  Nifty Norman trains.   Others: 1 Time For Action; 3 With Presence; 5 Made It Happen.

Race Four:

2 STEP BEYOND gets my nod in this fillies and mares pace at East Rutherford’s “Club Med”.  I guess what immediately catches my attention is this gal’s qualifier.  In a word: solid.   Last year, as a 2-year old, this young lady ran against some serious stakes competition.  She also draws an improved starting post.  Finally, there’s Le Frelon Vert, Le Quebecois, Monsieur Yannick Gingras.  Magnifique!  This Art Major-bred looks like she’s ready to turn the page and take a step forward as she begins her 3-year old racing campaign.  This filly’s conditioner is Ron Burke.  Others: 6 ParkavenueJuliean n;  5 The Second Star;  3 Coffee’s Ready.

Race Five:

6 P L ICABOD has been running against better.  He now gets a degree of class relief.  He certainly should compete with these. This Kadabra-bred trotter can go to the top (there is speed in front of him).  We’ll just have to wait and see what trainer Tony Alagna’s tactics are. Brett Miller reprises the drive.  Others: 5 You’re Majestic; 3 Triumphant’s Chip; 1/1A Montalbano Bi/MissLarose.

Race Six:

1/1A NEW JERSEY VIKING/CRAZY WOW. Two for the price of one.  I’m leaning toward #1 with Yannick Gingras.  An extremely good qualifier.  A week’s rest likely helped.  Appears sharp.  This guy, among others, must avoid “dancing”.  Marcus Melander trains.  Others: 6, 5, 2.

Race Seven:

8 DARLINONTHEBEACH.  That was some qualifier right off the bench.  Is this mare ready…or what?  Lifetime earning of just shy of a million bucks.  There’s enough speed up front for this gal to set it up for her closing kick.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see those purple and white (Dave Miller) silks flying on the outside.  Nifty Norman trains this Somebeachsomewher e-bred 5-year old.  Others: 6 Inverse Hanover; 9 Terror At Night; 4 Blue Moon Stride.

Race Eight:

6 LOVELY LYNNLY took an awful long time to get into gear in her last, her first pari-mutuel start in many months.  With that one under her belt, she should be on the upswing.  I wouldn’t be surprised if this Credit Winner-bred gal rushed out for the early lead.  Brett Miller reprises the drive for trainer Jake Leamon.  Others: 3 Southwind Angelica; 4 Massamillion; 2 Piranha Fury.

Race Nine:

8 DR J’s KISS gets my nod in what I see as a wide-open pace.  In her most recent starts down in Philly she seemed to get caught in the outside flow, but she never seemed to find her way out.  This looks like a better situation for this Somebeachsomewher e-bred.  Dave Miller picks up the drive for the trainer/part-owner Joe Pavia, Jr. Others: 6 Mattjestic Tempo; 3 Macjestic Toddy N; 1 Come Get The Cash.

Race Ten:

1 TOBER disappointed as “the chalk” in his last against better.  The horse’s connections now switch to the Hall-of-Famer, Dave Miller.  That, the class drop, and #1 starting post, should all combine to make this guy “a contendah”.  This aged gelding should be sitting no worse than third or fourth when the field heads down the backstretch.  It’ll then be up to “Buckeye” to make his move and reel in the others.  Speaking of others: 4 Sweet Justice; 9 Possessed Fashion; 8 Great Emancipator.

If this #1 entry doesn't win, there will be a pick 5 carryover. On that note, lets try the Rubber Duck here

That is how harness racing always works, the only horse without a carryover wins. They need more carryovers and bigger pools. Svanstedt really needs to quit driving before he kills someone as well

Yep, this time he didn't get rewarded with a check though. Almost guarantees he will drive her hard next start now
