Title: Stiff job, 12th race, Harrahs, D. Miller
Post by: Easy Irv on April 22, 2018, 04:30:30 PM
Just bet, watched and lost the 12th race at Harrahs. David Miller had the 1/2 shot, #7, best horse in the race. I bet him in exactas with the 8, Gingras only because he was being heavily bet as the 2nd choice but was hard to see off the program. 8 goes right to the lead and Miller sets up 4th with the 7 horse.  At about the 5/8 mile point Miller refused to pull his horse as another horse pulled behind him and gave him plenty of opportunity to pull. Miller refused to pull and lost valuable time and ground as he had to wait for this non contender to tire so he could get out. When he got out he was flying and made it look good but had no intention of winning this race. If you have any doubt watch the replay. A total stiff job. Sickening!!!

No movement at Chester, very obvious. BIGGEST LIGHTNING LANE track ever. At least 3 horses can go in the lane. Plus if the guy on the front is dead, goes right and EVERYBODY gets lose  11.wp 11.wp 11.wp 11.wp 11.wp 11.wp 11.wp

only grandstand goofs call this a stiff, lets look at the race

condition   nw1
purse 12,000
date  april 22

mr miller did zactly what he is sposed to do with a nw1 in april, make money, teach how to race and keep in class to make more money, for owners and connections.  this race is not carded for you gambling grandstand goofs, it is there for the important people, the people in the industry.  if you feel you have to gamble on a nw1,in april, you have a problem and should seek help for your addiction

The best part about this thread is that the biggest problem with the sport is identified.

Cottonwood says "make money, teach...."

Others talk about the merry-go-round, no movement aspect of racing there.

Why do 4th and 5th place finishers get any money?  Why isn't win rewarded more?  70-20-10 is a good start.  Of course, set aside a certain amount to pay other starters, but make it a nominal fee that all other starters share evenly.

Stop reward mediocrity and lack of effort.

Have to pay to ship.Have to pay the groom.Have to pay for lasix.  If you are only paying top 3 you won't be racing very long.

You mean horses would actually have to....have to RACE TO MAKE MONEY????? No more sitting on the pylons until the 5/8ths pole???? I still say we need a Pull Pole. If you are in the 3 hole and you don't pull somewhere between the quarter and the half, and you have clearance, driver is fined $500. Escalating fines for repeat offenders

Don't ever remember David Miller not trying, sometimes even the best make mistakes
everything happens really fast on the track

IMO your memory is correct as far as Ohio and the Meadows. You take a guy off the farm, put him in the big city with bills to pay, cashing large tickets is more important than "trying."  It is a shame, but with dwindling handle and purses; let the sucker at the mutuel window beware.

I still don't understand why if he was betting 7-8 exacta big he didn't reverse it some. 8-7 paid decent

Nw 1 and Nw 2--should be non betting races--held before the start of the program in order to protect betting public.

Yes-drivers and trainers milk the system-and rightly so--some horses have v limited ability and once out of these classes become non competitive.

Simple solution, change the purse distribution structure.  Why reward mediocrity?

Oh wait, it is harness racing and.....hold on, I have to pause my beta, turn down my 8 track, while I answer my rotary, and then I'll finish my thought.

I at no time thought the 8 had a chance to win. As I said earlier I only used him because he was being bet but not for any reason I could see on the program. The 7 was hands down the best horse and would have won this race if driven correctly. Also, I have never seen D. Miller do anything like this before. I was shocked as I watched this happen with him in the bike!!
