Title: paper trail
Post by: andrew on October 12, 2026, 07:04:02 PM
This part of the record is not allegation. It is a state finding. In June 2019, the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board concluded that Ilhan Omar's campaign had spent funds on purposes state law does not permit, including personal travel and help with her tax returns.

The board ordered Omar to personally reimburse her campaign committee $3,469.23 and pay the state a $500 civil penalty. Her campaign said she was glad the process was complete and intended to comply with the findings.

The board's report also documented that Omar and Ahmed Hirsi filed joint tax returns for 2014 and 2015. During those years, her civil marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, entered in 2009, was still legally in effect; the divorce did not come until 2017.
Federal agents are now investigating her immigration history. The state paper trail from 2019 is already a matter of public record.
