Title: bernie betrayed
Post by: andrew on October 10, 2026, 10:28:04 PM
The Democratic Party’s failure to embrace Bernie Sanders is perhaps its greatest self-inflicted wound. Sanders, with his grassroots movement and clear vision for systemic change, represented the kind of energy and authenticity the Democrats desperately needed. Instead, he was betrayed at every turn, most egregiously during the 2016 primaries.

Leaked emails from the Democratic National Committee exposed a calculated effort to undermine Sanders’ campaign. From scheduling debates at inconvenient times to stacking the deck with superdelegates in favor of Hillary Clinton, the DNC went to extraordinary lengths to ensure Sanders’ defeat. The crowning insult came in Vermont, Sanders’ own state, where Clinton was awarded an undeserved victory.

His calls for Medicare for All, tuition-free college, and economic justice resonated with millions of voters, particularly young Americans and the working class. But the Democratic establishment saw Sanders as a threat - not to the country, but to their power. By sabotaging his campaign, they alienated the very voters who might have revitalised the party.
The result was a fractured base that ultimately cost the Democrats the White House in 2016 and contributed to their ongoing decline. Sanders’ betrayal is a stark reminder of the party’s disdain for authenticity and its preference for maintaining the status quo, no matter the cost.
