Long Read: The Democratic Party’s Disastrous Descent Into Decay
The Democratic Party finds itself in shambles, a hollowed-out institution incapable of meeting the challenges of a nation increasingly disillusioned by its broken promises and failed leadership.
The debacle of the 2024 election laid bare its failures for all to see. Joe Biden, unceremoniously forced out of the race in June by his own party, epitomised an administration consumed by scandal and ineptitude. Kamala Harris' humiliating defeat to Donald Trump in November served to underscore the Democrats’ deep disconnection from the electorate.
Even in the aftermath of November´s annihilation, the problems continue to mount for this once proud political institution. Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, in the final weeks of his presidency serves only to further plunge the party into an ethical and political abyss.
Biden’s forced withdrawal, Harris’s humiliating loss, and the staggering impropriety of the Hunter Biden pardon are not isolated failures. They are symptoms of a party that has lost its purpose, abandoned its principles, and alienated the very voters it once claimed to represent. For the Democrats, the 2024 election was not merely a defeat; it was an unmasking of a political entity that has little to offer but its own decay.
Whispers of Hillary Clinton’s return - an absurd idea made plausible only by the party’s desperation - would only serve as another damning indictment of its inability to cultivate fresh leadership or present a coherent vision. The Democrats are no longer a party of working-class advocacy and transformative ideas; they are a club of elites clinging to cultural posturing, entrenched corruption, and hollow rhetoric.
This isn’t simply about losing an election. It’s about a deeper rot, years in the making. From Biden’s scandal-ridden presidency to Harris’s embarrassing failure on the campaign trail, the Democratic Party’s decline is both a symptom and a cause of its alienation from the American electorate.
