We know this because Donald Trump just gave out the Republican senator’s cellphone number to millions of people on Truth Social.
“Call Tom on his cellphone,” Trump instructed the “Great People of Arkansas,” after complaining that Cotton is blocking legislation to make daylight saving time permanent.
Trump is taking this clock business very seriously.
His post runs through the group of Americans he believes desperately need more afternoon sunshine – golfers, of course … and tennis players, hunters and farmers among others – before arriving at people who have to climb “high and dangerous steeples” twice a year to change clocks.
Cotton, meanwhile, has an actual policy objection. He argues that permanent daylight savings time would leave children traveling to school in the dark on winter mornings. The House has passed the Sunshine Protection Act, but it has stalled in the Senate.
So of course Trump's idea is to poke him in the eye by giving out his phone number to his 13 million Truth Social followers. Great schoolyard politics, eh?
It’s such a perfectly Trump solution to a disagreement. He wants something done, Tom Cotton won't do it, and somewhere along the way the normal human convention against broadcasting somebody else’s cellphone number simply failed to make the agenda.
Trump already has plenty on his plate running the country.
Now he’s apparently in charge of the phone book, too.
Tom, you’ve got a call.
