Title: The Red Mile today Monday 8-31-26
Post by: rainman2 on August 31, 2026, 02:45:44 PM
Nice horses and top drivers going for decent to good money!

However Monday afternoon, an off day for the good t-bred tracks and not much handle!

Not much handle at Saratoga and Monticello either!

What gives?

You're right. Not a surprise. For a good card, an off day, etc., it doesn't take a genius to think about it. LOL.

Disappointing is the word.

Does the red Mile care about racing?

Even Batavia Downs actually promotes the racing end in their commercials and advertising.

It just shows how little interest there is in harness racing particularly during the week. Pocono Down has good racing for overnight horses but the handle isn't very good. Harness racing was more popular with older people, as they die off, no one is replacing them.

I agree completely. Do they care? You would think they would. Maybe they are simply still in the mode of big days, the sales, etc. I have no idea. It's a waste.

Did PA lower its take out rates?

race 13 at Pocono today---1.49.3 class n/w 5500/5

Kentucky only cares about slot machine revenue?

Red Mile doesn't get the slot revenue like the other harness tracks in Kentucky do as evidence by their overnight purses. The winners over for older horses only goes for $9000.

Yes, but the Red Mike did-----not sure if they still do-----get revenue from the HHR machines. They had something like 900 machines, and part of the revenue was to contribute and fund purses, backstretch and front-side improvements, and so on. Originally, this was a partnership between The Red Mile and Keeneland. Not sure of the current status.

Their overnight purses, not including stakes are super low, while the new newer harness tracks purses are very big.
