Race 9 Selections The Horseplayer’s Journal by Garnet Barnsdale
#9 BEAU JANGLES lost his superstar status this year when he lost four of his first seven starts after going
undefeated and winning the Dan Patch Award for Horse of the Year in North America last season. He seemed to
have legitimate excuses for some of those performances when it was revealed that he had a lung infection that
prevented him from racing in the Meadowlands Pace. In the last Gold leg at Grand River, he simply got a trip that he
couldn’t overcome, getting hung out to dry in a 52 3/5 opening half. He gets an interesting driver change here with
Todd McCarthy traveling north and likely passing up a drive in the Milstein at Northfield Park to sit behind this colt.
When he is on his game, this is a conditioned field that Beau Jangles should beat, and you know Doc Moore will be
looking for a positive result here tonight.

upon further review I am going with Calicojack Hanover
not thrilled with Tyler Jones but has been facing monsters in the Opens
this is significant class relief
Beau has fans and will take plenty of action

There.
BJ, then your CJ TJ for bobble, and the Mac boys to wrap it up.
Try to get redemption with this two combo super.

Beau in a 147 3/5 to 148.

If not him I think the other bobble dc, CJ has a big shot! ;D

Sorry Sweet: 3 yr old 9 hole against these grizzly bangers NO WAY.

Sorry Sweet: 3 yr old 9 hole against these grizzly bangers NO WAY.
He's two steps to the top.
Who the fuck doesn't want to sit behind BJ?
You're looking at this race like they're going for a $1mil bux.
Don't.
54 / 54 or sub 54 backend, not an exciting race an ez w2w.
Your biggest complaint post race, they let him steal the race.
I'm bound to get something right ngc3
-
I don't see them blasting Beau out of there for a $33k purse
he can win but I feel he will be floating then looking for a cover trip
we shall see
-
My prediction, he floats out to about 6th and then comes 2nd over and we will see what he has.
We have to remember a couple things
#1 this is Todd Mac, not bobble.. big difference
#2 Who knows what Doc "the monopoly guy" Moore has instructed him to do
He could of told him, this is just a tightening don't go ape shit, or he could of told Todd to go balls to the wall to try and get the horses mojo back. Or something in between
I am not betting, but will enjoy the show!
-
BJ will show no interest other than trying to finish with a tight line...Could trip out and get a big piece, but more likely just to not be thoroughly gutted again.
-
I really don't know what makes you think that Sweet. When you look at his lines, even in
his hay-day, seldom had a clear lead at the 1/4. Grinder.. I like the 2 + 4 in there.
Both are horses previously selected by two other posters. Frankly it would be silly to
even try to win with the horse struggling with health issues and horrible trips. Similar though
to Twin B Joefresh earlier this season when people were questioning a quality horse dropping.
Not that easy to find a spot to race with their credentials.

That's the beauty of watching and wagering
We all have and are entitled to our opinions
We all see things differently
We all focus on different angles.
I am tuning into Northfield until BJ races
Nice card there in po dunk Ohio

Yup you were on Tsunami Seas when Sugar was racing
He hasn't raced in well over a month..meaning Sugar
Tsunami Seas is no bueno from post 8
#2 Melillo is the winner of that race 100%

When he had the 8 hole in Scioto in his break out race 149 1/5, was amazing, then floundered bad.
Why not pull the horse in and take him seriously after that, rest em', full vet, therapy, stake em'.
Just burn through the colt like an atm, and him trying his darndest to get a check.
Some of these owners suck and take or give bad input from / to trainers.
-
Absolutely! Got side tracks but intended to comment that Noble isn't pissing around tonight.
A little like JT's boy Jose [who is generally awesome] but gotta catch them when they are focused
and driven. It clearly varies. Overall pretty diverse enjoyable day of action with still more to come.
LLWS Starting this week. First HS games. Whohoo. Fall has just about arrived. Best time of year. tmbz1

Exactly.. I remember he had post 8 at Scioto that night
Agreed about the owners.
Its just unfortunate he drew post 8 in this race..if he drew inside, he could of landed in the top 4 especially with David Miller driving
Post 8 is a death sentence at Northfield

Yup 3 wins already
He is focused because bigger purses tonight and some of the heavy hitter drivers are in town

Better drive and better race than I predicted. Good of a run as he could have gotten.
Did look better. Tough spot,

Boon Bam you were right! tmbz1
Everyone else was right and I was wrong.
I'll give BJ one more race.
Slow pace, 2 moves off a sometime and some brutal races.
Maybe he needs a new trainer too ngc3

Pretty much spot on with the trip predictions
They were trying to win.. he just didn't have it
-
Tyler Jones turns in a career best drive--the guy sucks
also why he was 6/1
horse was facing Ervin Hanover and Bythemissile
I'll take it tmbz1
-
Good time to stop with this poor horse
over raced at 2...they went for the $$ and got it
The poor guy is cooked
was beaten tonite by Jack Panic ..a NW 6000 pacer
Breeding Value starting to drift lower....

i say its McClures fault ngc3
maybe Doc will geld him(Beau not bobble)

When he said in that winner's circle racing against "C" grade 3 yo colts, having his own way he's scared to ruin that horse's legacy it should of been over.
The fact of the matter is that horse is fucked up.
Lost by under 2 lengths today, 2 moves from the 9 hole, slow pace against older horses.
Get rid of Doc.
Seriously they all have no sense of themself, owner's too.
After that comment bobble, possibly the trainer too if he doesn't agree doesn't ever see the horse again.
If the horse don't recover he's made and possibly a good sire.

The horse is a solid 1:49s horse which is fine. This is who he is. He never progressed as a 3 year old while other horses have. Lung infection and drivers are not the reason for his losing efforts but how quickly a horse of the year has fallen in such as short time in reputation is uncanny.
-
Ian needs to send him to Mark Ford and magically the horse will improve. Same thing he did with Shadow Play and then BOOM JUST LIKE THAT the horse becomes a world champion.

If you remember going in to the Metro Pace, the two top horse were Beau Jangles and Frantic Hanover. Frantic Hanover was actually the betting favorite and may have won if he had gotten room a little sooner. The point is Frantic Hanover has not done much since. That was his high point. Beau Jangles kept going through the Breeders Crown. It is nt that unusual for the best at two to not be the best at three.
-
this was just a bad spot and bad post to begin with. It went much like I expected...no shame in going 49.1 at all but expecting him to win from this spot given his recent races was a reach..way overbet...Calicoa is a legt ffa
-
this race against older horses was insanity...
he should have been in a 3 year old Open at best
trying to recoup some form..
they are trying for a shot at the Breeders Crown
end of season...
which will not turn out well....but u never know.
Looks like this guy should have been stopped with
last month.
or maybe after the Metro..
but they did get all the $$ at 2....
Most top 2 year old are not becoming top 3 year olds
with the new speed tracks this year..
the 1:51 are now 1:49:4
The 1:49 and change became 1:48 and change
all a second ++. Faster than last few years...
The fresh group is coming in and wreaking havoc with
the "old" crew.
-
Last night was probably a tuneup for a $300,000 race at Pocono next week. Doc didn't switch to Todd without having a stateside campaign in mind.

In the meantime....bobbl e lost from the rail as favorite with Emoticon to McNair with Logan second choice from the 8 hole when they dashed out of there to Georgian. No one should be worried that bobble gets his feelings hurt or someone wants to test a theory he may be a "B" level 7/8's track driver after all.
He should go to Hoosier ngc3

Pace "Max C. Hempt Memorial" 3 Yr. Old Open ENTRY FEE: $3,000-- (Consolation I Purse: $200,000; Starting Fee: $1,500)--
(Consolation II Purse $100,000; Starting Fee: $750)----you think Moore will enter BJ in this? HIGHLY unlikely at this point.
-
I said this two months ago...I doubt he leaves Ontario
-
If he wasn't planning on leaving Canada he could have switched to a different driver from there like Louis Roy who's driven for him in the past... Having Todd come up for an overnight race was to give him a feel for the horse, otherwise there's no reason to bring him
-

that is possible
maybe the intent was there and they wanted to see if they compete outside Ontario
not sure if Todd has any decent other 3 yos he could drive....he most likely would opt off Beau if he did
maybe the deal was Todd will drive the remainder of the Gold Series for Beau
they should stay in Ontario and put Bobble back on as it doesn't look like he is even in the top 10 3yos
-
I fully expect Brandon Blvd to be at Pocono, possibly Mamba too, both are coming off sub par races in the Cane Pace. Probably see Al Papi too, probably not Melillo since he ran last night.
-

I talked to a guy from the Burke organization for a few minutes at the Hambo. I expect Al Papi at Pocono and I would not count out Melillo and probably Frantic Hanover. It just depends which race their earning qualify them for. I doubt Burke would be concerned racing Melillo again in a week. Expect to see five Burke colts in the Jug.
-
I said this two months ago...I doubt he leaves Ontario
Agreed
The only possible 1 or 2 starts remaining outside of Canada will be the breeders crown at Scioto..short of that..Canada only
-

There is little doubt that was the plan. They expected a win with Todd driving last night they he would finish out the year driving Beau. A top three year old would have destroyed that field. Beau is not right are he hit his ceiling. Before the race last night. they said the plan was Pocono next week. I doubt that performance was good enough to continue with that plan. We do not know what Todd said to Doc Moore after the race.
-

Todd eliminated the issue with the post by the first eights. Mohawk is not an oval. The second turn is virtually the same as a straight according to people have driven it. These were not even the top horses at Mohawk. A top three year old should have won for fun.
-
He had a perfect trip last night. Landed a hole.. second over trip.. yes they went 48.4 but he is not the superstar they played him out to be. Enough said. Time to turn the page. He's just another horse.
-
My take is that he raced well enough to take a shot in the Hempt next week. He doesn't scare anyone anymore, and it shapes up as a great race with Brandon Blvd, Gentleman's Club, Al Papi and Melillo as the ones to beat.
-
Melillo is better than BJ as a 3 year old.............. ...what is the opening stud fee now for BJ once retired after this mess of a year?
