Title: Drivers not in their driver's colors.
Post by: Elcrabadore on August 12, 2026, 11:05:54 AM
A few owners or trainers insist on their driver change out of regular driver colors and put on different colors. In other words, wearing someone else's clothes.   Do they think the changed colors are going to make a difference in performance? USTA should require driver colors to be consistently worn as selected by the driver and not changed by a few owners or trainers.  Very confusing for the fans.

Dexter does this shit.

It's annoying as fuck.

See it in qualifiers too.

Some of the drivers never do it.

Melander does it

he had YG wear the stable colors this year and had TT do it in previous years

it happens and the drivers have no say in it

Diamond Creek Farm and Lindy Farms also have their driver's wear their stable colors.

I guess it's up to the owners but it looks ridiculous.

It’s just a jacket that they put over their own colors

The ones who do it are obviously very rich so it's like a trophy to them.

They have done it for years off and on. Farm or Stable colors, Hanover, John Simpson Sr. originally Maroon and white. Arden Homestead, Lady J, Goldfish, she is now wearing her own Green red and white/ Clearview Farms (Norman Woolworth)Duenna, Stanley Dancer, Hambletonian. Lindy Farms etc. It's not up to the trainer, it's up to the owner. You want to drive do what the ask. It's also easier for the owners to see their horses. This is how the T-breds have always done it.

The drivers can refuse if they want although risk losing the drive. Thoroughbred jocks change colors every race, no big deal.

They should be willing to accommodate the request of the owner, they pay the bills. In Flats racing, the jocks change silks EVERY RACE.

And the owners have to pay for the silks too!
