In half the races the handle was less than 5k.

How do they stay open?

The track supports the casino and vice versa .  And Jeff Gural may help out if its needed.

I don't believe there's any tracks that actually cover the cost of racing ? Look at Shenandoah which only handle $50,000 - $60,000 a day. The cost to race is probably $15,000 for International Sound, United Tote, Roberts, Judges, Starter and Driver, Track Crew and Paddock Crew. % for online wagering is very low compared to 10 or more % for ontrack. Harness Racing needs to be very thankful for the welfare money from the Casinos.

Do you think that there would be casinos at the tracks if it wasn't for the tracks lobbying for it?

++++

The reason the tracks lobby for it is because there would not be any harness pari mutuel tracks left, unless the states gave them welfare money. The only reason harness racing still exists, is because of casinos. Hopefully soon, decoupling will take place, and the blight named harness racing will be gone for good.

I play every Tioga card if I am home. Formful race with no fixing or drugs. Get free4 programs on their website. I wish the handles were higher so I can increase the size of my bets.

And today... Bulldog races.

Apparently the industry isn't big or supporting lots of people in New Jersey.

Governor sherill wants to cut the welfare subsidy from 20 million to 5 million in 2027

Look at the money that Yonkers gives out in a week and look at their handle?

It's the cost of doing business for the casinos to have a casino at the track. Without the track. No Casino

Haven't seen many casinos go out of business. They get bigger and bigger

And the tracks provide huge revenue to the casinos. Besides customers, I've seen horsemen pile into casinos in droves to eat, drink, and gamble!   Many are pretty big gamblers.  tmbz1

Man, these threads are some of the best.  I can't tell if people really think in 2026 casinos need racing, or if they are just trolling.  That is the definition of great trolling, so I really hope that is the case.  Otherwise, we need more abortion!

A country that allows its citizens to smoke marijuana, bet on political races and go into any bathroom, doesn't need permission from Cletus.

That may happen at a handful of tracks, but alot of the tracks today no longer have a stable area so everyone ships in and ships out. If you've ever been to Harrah's Philly it's in a bad area, almost nobody is in the simulcast area, the refreshment stand is closed most days, the casino is 3/4 empty. Owners rarely come to the track, and the drivers can't get out of there fast enough when the races are over. If any of the tracks in PA were to close in the future, they wouldn't definitely be the first.

Like Pompano?

Like Calder?

Like Hialeah?

Like Hastings?

Like Fraser?

Like Rid Car?

Like Aquaduck?

Like every dog track in Florida, NH, MA?

All got casinos or card rooms because the tracks (and the horse and dog people) wanted it, like you said.

But there are bright spots.

Monticello has more handle than Yonkers and their casino is down the street!

For shits and giggles, which track will be the first one to close racing down permanently?
