In 2015 the Hard Rock partnered with Jeff Gural to get the BigM a casino.
That partnership ended last month, the Hard Rock sold its 50% share back to Gural.
The Hard Rock already has a casino in AC.
No major brand name casino partner is going to be good for Gural, because the lobby against want to make sure their side doesn't get hurt and the competition could benefit on top of it and he could definitely have his BigM casino now with the Hard Rock gone because they wanted to bend for no one and rock their competition.
Bad partnership, seemed visually stunning the finished product but not for the anti-lobby, no way, was too stunning. ngc3
Gural can now be super flexible with his approach, and he finally has majority poll support in NJ of 60%+ the super majority he not only didn't have but got voted down (73-27).
To start...A non destination (no hotel / resort) and medium sized casino enough to cover the racing costs to keep it the premier track and commensurate purses in the world and make him some cash profit. The rest of the BigM casino proceeds will go to projects that benefit AC and or directly benefit AC casinos, other benefits to coastal resort businesses all over the state, and more for the state for gaming tax revenue.
The NYC casino expansion is going to negatively impact AC's bottom line, they'll need a NJ ally to join them to not hurt their revenue, but actually be a financial help and now those negotiations that will get that approved will be controlled by Jeff Gural and the lobby against - together one goal, mutuality and equitable.
Now Jeff Gural can absorb some of that NYC casino revenue for NJ!
If all goes well it will go on a 2027 ballot referendum and it'll be passed because as of now it's too close to two consecutive legislature failures and the BigM and it's other gambling related biz revenue sank from a slow cold winter.

If AC sees they've not been badly impacted and thus benefited, they'll allow Gural to go full on destination in the 2030's and seek the same in a reciprocal relationship with the BigM casino, to benefit from that too.
Jeff Gural should have his casino approved in 2027, built and operating late 2028 / 2029.

The easiest money you’ll ever make betting on anything at the meadowlands is that there is little to no chance of a casino. Anyone who says otherwise does not understand the political landscape of NJ.
A better bet is which track closes first, Meadowlands or Monmouth.

I think the voters of NJ would be stupid not to vote for both the Meadowlands and Monmouth getting casino gambling. The casinos that will open in NYC are sure to put both a dent in Atlantic City and neighboring venues. My buddy Frank, who works at Foxwoods and live in Clark Falls, Ct. told me the management there is very concerned about the impact the NYC casinos will have on them. He told me the Casino estimates about 15%-20% of it's visitors are from the five boroughs of NYC. I think Foxwoods and Atlantic City will take a "hit" when the NYC casinos are up and running.

Polls don't lie, but pollsters do. The irony is when asked simply about casino expansion outside AC, the results haven't changed. Overwhelming percentage say no. However, when asked about a casino specifically at the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park, the results are very different. It's simply NIMBY. Regardless, I saw the Braun poll and it was a fairly small sampling (805 registered voters), with half being contacted by text...and when asked about the specific question(s), Braun refused to answer/comment saying that would be up to FDU. So, while I may hope Gural gets a casino, I just don't think it will fly in November. If it does, there are still many hoops and hurdles. That means time. But, I do think you'll see a casino at the Meadowlands within 10 years.

The vote has zero do with Jeff Gural. It has to do with the gamblers in Northern New Jersey. It is one of the most concentrated population centers in the northeast. They can ride the 2.45Hrs. to Atlantic City or drive 20 minutes over the bridge and play in a spanking new casino in NYC. Jersey knows, they'll lose a lot of tax dollars when NYC opens it's casinos.

There are over 6.6 million voters in New Jersey. I doubt if 5% even know who Jeff Gural is. If the casino vote passes, it will because it will create new jobs for the state. More importantly, many gamblers in Northen NJ won't have to make the distasteful choice of driving three hours to Atlantic City or going over the GW Bridge and play at spanking new casinos in Manhattan. I've seen the casino at Aqueduct. Twenty percent of the tags in the parking lot are from Jersey. It's an easy jaunt over the Verrazzano onto the Belt to the Big A. For more proof, take a ride as I have to the Catskills Casino down the road from Monticello Raceway. Thirty big buses with jammed with Asian folks from the boroughs looking to spend some cash. Many states try to build their casino close to another states border to draw gamblers away to their venue. Look at Ohio. The Hard Rock in Cincy is 2 miles from the Kentucky border. A five minute drive over the bridge. Very smart move. Jersey very well might not pass the bill. If they don't that's fine too. It wont be a smart move. But who says the voters are smart anyway? LOL!

As said, I suspect over 95% of the voters have no idea who Jeff Gural is. So I don't think knowing him, and making it personal, will come into play at all with NJ voters.....EXCEPT with NJ voters who are members/posters here! Sounds like the majority of them will vote against it, or him, just out of spite.
