And Yannick as a partner on some.

They have a stake in the game.  And they can get 5% to drive them too. They can determine how much everyone makes on the horse!!

Why not put down the one who is doing the training as trainer?

Yannick owns pieces of many horses with a variety of trainers. With the high incomes these drivers generate, they need to find ways to spend their money. Invest in good horses with good trainers, or pay taxes to the government.   To Me-  Smart Move

Correct me if I am wrong but at least YG owned horses with Engblom prior to him getting caught with Mon Amor.

Beckwith started using Engblom with that whole issue looming. Correct?
Very powerful drugs found in that poor horses system, making him race through horrible pain.

 Just horrible.
Disgusting person just like pacer 2

New horse tax laws allow you to take 100% depreciation on a horse all in the FIRST YEAR. This is a huge LEGAL allowed tax benefit that really helps out people who have large incomes.

How is it a conflict of interest if the owner is a driver/trainer??

His mission is to drive to the best of his ability to get his 5% whether he owns 0 % up to and including 100%!

What about the amateur races?  By your definition, this is a bad look as sone of these individuals drive their own!

i understand your point rainman
however assuming they want the 5% regardless of ownership would assume these guys try to win every race they drive in, given the comments i see on this site many would strongly disagree this is the case
also drivers owning horses may work opposite to your theory, since they own the horse they may actually race less aggressive some nights not wanting to hurt the horse( their investment)
either way i just think it is unnecessary and problematic
as for amateur races, they should be non wagering and certainly not held at the big m, however if people are wagering on them than they will continue

disagree
as a bettor, nothing makes more confident tht I'll get a competitive drive than seeing driver or wife listed as owner.
i don't see it as a conflict or bad look.
and its often hidden.

If you draw 7 & 8 on a 1/2 mile Track and 8 & 9 on a 5/8 mile Track, chances are the drive will be less aggressive.  As an owner, I hope for a check in this scenario, and I say thank you if it happens!  Tough to bet outside posts too.  If there is no interest on the tote board, you have to assume a less aggressive drive!

Look at the money they bet on amateur races!  In some cases, more than regular races!  More value as a bettor but more unpredictable because of the drivers involved!

Hang on, maybe I am missing something here. A trainer wants to own a horse, and he lists his/her spouse as the owner, for tax reasons? Really?

Art Stafford Jr started listing his wife and 2 kids as owners last year.
