Title: 2026 Preakness Field
Post by: Sweet on May 11, 2026, 07:07:38 PM
Some decent races Friday too at Laurel, Blacked-Eyed Susan and Pimlico Special.

Oak Grove, BigM and Mohawk have stakes finals that day and night.

Sunday, at Flamboro Prince Hal and Bruno final.

Laurel's Preakness Day on Saturday looks like next to the KYD, another HUGE POOLS wagering option!

As far as the Preakness card starts at 10:30 am Saturday, and it's a 14 race card, 8th-14th being all stakes.  I haven't seen the pps yet and know all these horses, but Napoleon Solo and Incredibolt is where I'm initially looking.

Weather looks like FAST and FIRM at all tracks! Good Luck! ;D

1. Taj Mahal, ridden by Jockey Sheldon Russell: 5-to-1
2. Ocelli, ridden by jockey Tyler Gaffalione: 6-to-1
3. Crupper, ridden by jockey Junior Alvarado: 30-to-1
4. Robusta, ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano: 30-to-1
5. Talkin, ridden by jockey Irad Ortiz Jr: 20-to-1
6. Chip Honcho, ridden by jockey Jose Ortiz: 5-to-1
7. The Hell We Did, ridden by jockey Luis Saez: 15-to-1
8. Bull By The Horns, ridden by jockey Micah Husbands: 30-to-1
9. Iron Honor, ridden by jockey Flavien Prat: 9-to-2
10. Napoleon Solo, ridden by jockey Paco Lopez: 8-to-1
11. Corona de Oro, ridden by jockey John Velazquez: 30-to-1
12. Incredibolt, ridden by jockey Jaime Torres: 5-to-1
13. Great White, ridden by jockey Alex Achard: 15-to-1
14. Pretty Boy Miah, ridden by jockey Ricardo Santana Jr: 15-to-1

I love you bro  tmbz1

With that said  ngc3

Taj Mahal is a cow  ngc3

The gall to have him at 5-1 ml with the likes of Incredibolt  ngc3

Started campaigning at 3, ok, went 3/3 sure on both fast and wet tracks, but beat nobodies in his home track, taking tremendous lashings each time.

Fancy name, undefeated, that is going to take money, an he even be bumped muchless tackled and finish 1 3/16...a gimmick.

If Taj Mahal wins at 25-1, 30-1 more likely to be at, or any odds  ngc3 I'll quit racing by the end of November, cutting me off one month   ;D

I had Incredibolt on all of my horizontals in the derby.. he was coming on in the stretch and got squeezed and finished 6th if memory serves. My only concern with him is having only the 2 weeks off against fresh runners.I haven't looked closely enough yet to make my selections. Probably should learn my lesson from the derby and regardless tri and super box the Ortiz brothers, Prat, Gafflione and Saez.. maybe throw in Jr or Johnny V.

#3 Crupper 30-1 ml & #6 Chip Honcho 5-1 ml & 10 Napoleon Solo (Paco) 8-1 ml.

That's the fastest ever I studied a TC race.

Saw the Brisnet PP, ran through them, under 10 minutes, including some replays!

For me it's a 3 horse race.

I think they just need to let Napoleon Solo be himself and Paco will this time.

So be it, NS will bottom out the field and the 3 (Junior), 6 (Jose Ortiz) who are fresh as can be, will come a calling.

Some of those derby horses had it rough and my hats are off to them and their connections for even finishing that race, muchless showing durability, some, great talent with the weight and distance.

I think I'm going to hit this superfecta!  ;D

The 2 horse Ocelli was purchased for $12,000, has earned over $600,000 so far this year and is still a maiden.

Looks like a really weak field for a triple crown race , seems like over the years the Preakness has lost its luster.   The top trainers with the headline horses don’t seem interested in going there

We the gamblers keep it exciting!

Lots and lots and lots of money will show up in the pools :) still where as like you said, the drawback.

There used to be a big triple crown bonus, that went away.

Then America Pharaoh broke the streak, after 37 years.

Then Baffert again 2018 with Justify.

Then it lost its luster.

The gamblers seem to be outperforming the owners lately...in risk, until some crazy loons pay bingo bongo prices for unproven stud fees and for prices of unproven yearlings.

Eventually they'll have to reschedule the Triple Crown races and have the Preakness 3 weeks after the Kentucky Derby instead of 2, that way more Derby horses will be willing to run in the Preakness including the Derby winner. In recent years the Preakness has lost its luster with the Derby winner bypassing it because of so little time between races. What they should do is have 3 weeks between the Ky Derby and Preakness, then the Belmont in 5 weeks.

Interesting that with harness horses, if they miss a week, gamblers think something’s wrong, lol.

I never thought that.

I never saw that in this forum.

If anything harness horses on average race too often.

The less good, more often, and the very healthy mediocre class too.

Taking a real look at this Saturdays Preakness, and it seems it's loaded with speed. I think the rail horse Taj Mahal is going to fly out of the gate like his butt's on fire. The trainer, Brittany Russell and her husband, jockey Sheldon Russell are racing at their home track. Some other are certainly going to go with him. I think we will see some very fast early fractions. Still doping it out. But I think Ocelli may break his maiden Saturday.

Considering the cow, Taj Mahal fastest 6 furlongs were 112 2/5  ngc3 and Napoleon Solo's 107 4/5  ngc3 also on a 1 1/8 track circumference, I see how you came up with that.

Understand this, Napoleon Solo has been reigned in to be rated, he don't want to, his last 2 races showed that, so he ain't gonna be fully rated, just a touch.

Great White can't even stand up without toppling over...do you ever see 7' tall sprinters or marathon runners  ngc3

Remove the KYD horses and the race fillers and you have...3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and the cow, #1  ngc3 ...

The fastest and most talented of those nine horses and the cow, Taj Mahal  ngc3, are the 3,6, and 10.  ;D

I think we might see a monster number in this race. But this track has always been speed favoring and unfriendly to deep closers. The #1 horse has a ton of speed. But many handicappers think that if the #14 can cross over and get the lead, the #1's jockey might be able to wrestle the horse to sit a trip. The first 1/4 mile is going to be interesting.

The 2 horse Ocelli was purchased for $12,000, has earned over $600,000 so far this year and is still a maiden.

The stuff dreams are made of!

What an astute buy, let's see if he can get that maiden broken & how much money he can accrue this year.

I had Golden Tempo in the Derby (which I shared in this forum). Back for the Preakness.

The undisputed best horse in this race is #10 Napoleon Solo. His Champagne win last year is arguably the best win this crop has produced in 2025-2026. His well-publicized setbacks going into the Wood Memorial less than 100% (and he still put in a good effort that day), combined with his much-improved recent works form, give me strong confidence he'll be sharp tomorrow. I think he's clearly the fastest horse in this race, and, assuming a clean break, he should be able to dictate terms over the other speed horses in this race, namely #1 Taj Mahal on the rail.

There is a real risk of a ballistic pace in this race if #10 Napolean Solo can't clear to the front. I think he can, but if he doesn't, I project a pace meltdown.

In this scenario, my eyes turn to two horse who I don't particularly like but who you simply can't overlook given their running styles. I'm referring to #2 Ocelli and #12 Incredibolt. Between the two, I think #12 Incredibolt actually ran a better race in the Kentucky Derby, being positioned closer to the front and sustaining his bid among fading horses (similar to Chief Wallabee). I still don't have much faith in this horse given how poorly that Virginia Derby win has aged. I think the class disadvantage is steep, but they will be underneath on my tickets based on running style alone.

I am really interested by #6 Chip Honcho and #7 The Hell We Did. I think both could stalk #10 Napolean Solo, and both could get the trips to grab a piece.

#6 Chip Honcho is a huge question mark. This is a weird horse; always has been. Everyone remembers how bad he looked in the mornings at Churchill leading up to the Derby before inevitably scratching. That, combined with his form reversal in his last start, is a huge concern wheeling back just two weeks later. If he somehow finds a way to fire his Risen Star performance, he'll be right there, but I think that's a big if.

#7 The Hell We Did is a physical specimen. This horse has monster aspirations, but I just don't think he's good enough yet. I think he is the one horse in this race I can confidently say will take a step forward here. But to win this race, it will have to be a HUGE step. Is he capable of it? Maybe, maybe not.

I am fully fading #1 Taj Mahal and #9 Iron Honor.

#1 Taj Mahal has looked unfocused and hot-headed in the mornings as of late, is taking a monster step up in class, is not nearly as fast off the jump as the other speeds in this race, and has a local rider in the saddle, which historically is an all-time fade angle. Pass.

#9 Iron Honor is a horse I've never really been impressed by. He will take money because of his connections, but at no point in his Wood Memorial did he look like a better horse than a less-than-100% #10 Napolean Solo. I thought he was a disappointing winner in the Gotham in February - and as he's stretched out, his form has worsened. How can one expect him to take a step forward for the first time in his career while stretching out yet again against horses he's already been out-classed by? And as possibly the post-time favorite. Yikes! Steer clear.

I am also tossing #3 Crupper, #4 Robusta, #11 Corona de Oro, and #14 Pretty Boy Miah based on huge running style disadvantages, along with post position for the outside pair. They are the biggest pace factors but none will be there at the end.

It's a joke #8 Bull By the Horns is in this race.

That leaves two horses #5 Talkin and #13 Great White to talk about. Both come out the dilapidated 2026 Bluegrass where they finished a quarter mile behind Derby auto-fade Further Ado. Both have favorable running styles, but neither have shown anything that leads me to believe they will take steps forward here.

I'll take a swing with the classiest and fastest horse in the race, #10 Napolean Solo.
